Lip tattoo with 3D effect: play of color
Possibilities of permanent makeup

A play of colors and shades, a unique technique of permanent make-up and an invariably delightful result - plump, alluring and sensual lips! 3D lip tattooing in the arsenal of a permanent makeup master is a must have in modern realities.
No matter how the fashion for female beauty changes - hairstyles, eyebrow shape, makeup - the look of beautifully defined, juicy lips is always in trend. Until recently, those girls who were not lucky enough to get an attractive lip volume from nature believed that this could be corrected either through daily painstaking makeup, or quite radically - plastic surgery. Now PM masters, having enriched their arsenal with new technology - lip tattoo with 3D effect - can help their clients get rid of existing imperfections and visually enlarge lips without surgery and injections.
Translated from English, "three-dimensional", from which the abbreviated name 3D was formed, means "three-dimensional". How are these two concepts combined - permanent lip makeup and 3D effect?
Lip tattoo with 3D effect was originally developed by cosmetologists and permanent makeup masters as a corrective procedure. The use of several pigments, their correct combination, smooth transitions and the final result help to correct obvious lip imperfections: asymmetry, beveled corners, irregularly shaped or with obvious asymmetry, the upper lip bend, scars, the effects of herpes, etc. But the results of such a tattoo create a completely new image of your client, which makes 3D lip tattoo one of the most popular techniques in Ukraine today.
The technique itself is much more difficult in terms of execution compared to classic contouring and filling with one color. The lip tattoo technique with a 3D effect involves the use of three shades of pigment: dark, light and the lightest (sometimes up to 5 different shades are used). This allows you to create a unique look and color of the lips with soft color transitions.
A dark shade is used to create a contour, with the help of this it is possible to correct the shape, to give it a definition. Lips are filled with light pigment, imperfections on the lips are hidden. And the lightest tone creates the effect of gloss applied to the lips - they create “spots” that play the role of highlights, creating a stunning tint effect.
But the highlight of the technique is the created volume, which appears due to the beautiful and correct combination of pigments and their transition to each other.
There are two ways to create a 3D tattoo:
- from a dark contour to a light center, while the color transition from dark to light is performed in a circle;
- from dark to light from bottom to top on the lower lip and from top to bottom on the top.
This type of tattoo has no age restrictions. But you need to be extremely careful if an age client who has purse-string wrinkles comes to you. The basic principle of the technique is that the contour should be pronounced, and if there are wrinkles, it will go in “waves”, which will give the client an extra age, and your work will look sloppy.
Also, masters can offer clients a 3D tattoo if there is an incorrect thickness of the lips and you need to visually enlarge the upper or lower lip.
Masters achieve impressive results in an effort to give the lips of clients the effect of fullness and brightness. A high-quality permanent 3D tattoo can emphasize the contour, hide asymmetry, any visual imperfections, increase volume, change the outline, and visually create swelling of the lips.
3D lip tattoo: procedure steps
The most important stage of the procedure, to which the maximum amount of time is devoted, is the development of a sketch. When developing a sketch, absolutely everything is important: the color of the eyes, eyebrows, hair, skin, natural color of the lips. The future effect of tattooing should merge into a single picture, not stand out too much and be natural, harmonious. Of course, the desire of the client plays an important role. The sketch is drawn, discussed, finalized and changed until a solution is determined.
If your client's natural lip shape does not require additional correction, then during the procedure you will only need to work on filling it with color. If you need to correct or correct the outline, then together with the client you will find the most suitable option for it. It is important to create a sketch of the shape of the lips, taking into account the client's preferences for shape and volume, the presence of various imperfections.
Next comes the selection of permanent makeup colors suitable for the client's image. This choice depends on the color type of appearance: blondes, brown-haired women, brunettes or redheads are suitable for different shades, but they should all be as close to natural as possible. In the process of creating a color scheme, you can select and mix up to 5 tones from the palette of shades of the selected color to create a smooth transition and a three-dimensional effect.
After applying anesthesia, we first fix the sketch and fix the contour with the darkest shade. We work with dashed movements in a linear technique, clearly along the intended contour, we apply the pigment in one pass. When working with this technique, we must make sure that the edge zone is densely shaded and has no gaps.
Then we select the lightest shade, which is lighter than the main color by several tones, and perform 1 pass completely, as if we are working in the “watercolor effect” technique. Next, start shading with the base color to create a soft, smooth transition. We fill the voids with the main shade, shade the color, connect all the shades together. We start by filling the corner of the lip completely. After passing 1-1.5 cm, we smoothly move on to filling only the contour zone, which occupies 1/3 of the width of the lip. At this stage, we use fairly dense strokes, as with lipstick, applying them tightly to each other. We maintain the same length and depth of strokes.
Remember that the effect of 3D tattooing directly depends on the correct choice of shades. Therefore, you should be based not only on the wishes of the client, her color type, but also on the laws of color. It is very important to choose such shades that are combined with each other, allow you to create a smooth, barely noticeable transition, but at the same time create complete harmony.
