Sun protection and makeup: the right sequence of products
And the rules for applying them
With the onset of summer, the topic of protecting your skin from the sun comes to the fore, and everyone needs to know everything about it. Makeup artists are no exception.
Using sun protection for the face is a must if your client is going to be outdoors in the sun. And simply explaining to a girl how to properly care for her skin during the summer season is an important point in the work of every makeup artist. Unfortunately, many women ignore the need to use sun protection on their face, so it's your mission to spread this much-needed information.
When and how should you apply sunscreen?
Classic sunscreen should be applied after moisturizing before applying makeup. It is important to distribute it well over the skin and do not skimp - for the product to work, you need a fairly dense layer. Apply the product not only to your face, but also to your ears and neck - these areas often suffer from lack of protection. Wait 15-20 minutes for the product to be absorbed, after which you can safely apply foundation.
It is important not to damage the Sanskrin layer, so it is best to apply the tone with a sponge using tapping movements. Sunscreen can serve as a great base for makeup, so you can skip applying primer. If sunscreen affects the durability of your makeup and prevents you from achieving the desired result, pay attention to sunscreen powders and sprays that can be applied to complete your makeup.
Is there enough SPF protection in foundation?
Dermatologists do not advise relying too much on the protection that modern foundations, BB and CC creams often have - it can hardly be called reliable. As a rule, the SPF level in such products is low, and sun filters are directed only against UVB rays. We remember that a high-quality face cream with sun protection should also contain filters against UVA rays, which provoke photoaging, lead to hyperpigmentation and, worst of all, skin cancer. The combination of sunscreen and foundation with SPF will not harm the client's skin and will provide double protection. But do not forget that the SPF level does not add up.
How to choose the best sunscreen for your face?
When choosing a quality sun protection product, pay attention to the presence of UVA and UVB filters. Remember, no filters guarantee complete protection against the formation of free radicals, which lead to rapid skin aging. Therefore, sunscreen products must contain a complex of antioxidants. If your cream also protects against environmental pollution or the blue light that our gadgets emit, take three at once. Pay attention to the list of filters that are considered obsolete because they are weak, photounstable, quickly degrade and often provoke allergic reactions:
- Benzophenone-3;
- Benzophenone-4;
- PABA (Ethylhexyl dimethyl Para-aminobenzoic Acid, 4-Aminobenzoic acid, 4-aminobenzoic acid);
- Octocrylene;
- Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane).
Based on the texture, focus on the girl’s skin. Beauties with dry skin types will benefit from thick sunscreen, and girls with oily or combination skin types will benefit from mattifying fluids and other products that are as light in texture as possible. Regularly check the expiration date of your sunscreen to ensure no harm to the client, otherwise the stability and effectiveness of this product may be compromised.
How to update Sanskrin throughout the day?
The sunscreen lasts for two hours in the sun, after which it is recommended to renew it. Of course, ideally, wash off your makeup, cleanse your face and reapply Sanskrin. But if your client is having an outdoor wedding on a summer day, this option is certainly not suitable. In this case, it is worth enlisting the help of sunscreen in the form of sunscreen powder or spray - they will allow you to restore protection quickly and painlessly for your makeup.
