Short haircuts: what types to offer the client?
Supply and demand
Over the past 2020, among clients and customers, the number of those who decided to change their image and preferred short haircuts has increased significantly. Therefore, if such a client contacts you, then offer him one of the following options.
From a technical point of view, hair from 1-3 cm to 15-20 cm is considered short (this is approximately the length to the bottom of the chin).
5.7 cm rule
Over many years of his work, the famous English stylist and hairdresser John Frieda noticed an interesting feature: it is the line of the jaw that determines whether a short haircut suits the client or whether it is better to leave it long. As a result, the hairdresser came up with a rule that was later called “5.7 cm”, and it consists in measuring the distance from the ear to the chin.
How should measurements be taken? Place a pencil in a horizontal position on the client's chin and a ruler on the pencil. The zero mark of the ruler should reach your earlobe. Next, you need to measure the distance from your earlobe to your chin.
If the distance is less than or equal to 5.7 cm, then a short haircut will suit the client, and if it is more, offer him/her a longer haircut.
How to choose a haircut depending on your face shape?
Also, what kind of haircut to offer to a particular client depends on the shape of the face. As you know, the oval face shape is the most unpretentious and universal shape, which will expand the client’s choice, and the master – the field of proposals. Therefore, for an oval face shape, you can cut everyone’s favorite bob and even an ultra-short haircut.
But this is only the oval shape. But let’s look at other face shapes in a little more detail. For a round face shape, it is better to choose haircuts with asymmetry and volume in the crown area. This can be supplemented with sharp strands using length profiling. If we talk about specific haircuts, then offer a client with a round face shape gavroche, garcon, pixie and bob haircuts. “Contraindications” for creating a round face shape are those types of haircuts that visually widen or shorten the face (pageboy or sessun).
The rectangular shape provides for an elongated facial contour and a high forehead, which means that in order to harmonize the features, you need to reduce the height of the forehead and add volume to the sides of the face. Therefore, haircuts like a cap, bob (in this case with bangs), page or sessun will help you with this.
If the client has a square face shape, then the haircut should add volume to the crown area and also soften the angles of the lower jaw. Therefore, recommend garcon, pixie and bob with extension.
Two similar face shapes (triangular and heart-shaped) require correction of the width of the forehead and the volume of the chin. Oblique bangs or bangs laid to one side will help to visually narrow your forehead. But even thick bangs in combination with a short length are best avoided.
Diamond face shape - the proposed haircut should add volume to the temples and crown. These are cascading short haircuts Italian and caprice, as well as garcon styled with volume.
Clients with a trapezoidal face shape lack volume in the temporal area, due to which a wide jaw will visually appear narrower. Women with this face shape are suitable for voluminous haircuts like a cap, voluminous pixie or caprice. This face shape should avoid ultra-short haircuts with sleek styling.
Ultra short haircut
Undoubtedly, the most popular haircut of 2020, especially during the quarantine period, is the ultra-short haircut with a clipper. There are no special nuances in this haircut, since you only need to choose an attachment for a certain length.
cap
This is a multi-layered haircut that creates volume on the crown, back of the head and cheekbones. It also opens the ears completely or partially. In terms of hair type, this haircut is suitable for any hair thickness and texture, except very thin ones.
Garson
This haircut can also be classified as short. It is performed using graduation, and smooth transitions and clear lines are achieved using thinning. A distinctive feature of this hairstyle is the minimum length in the lower occipital area and volume on top.
Sessun
Volume haircut for short, medium length and even long hair. Its characteristic feature is thick bangs and a silhouette with an extension from the bang line to the back of the head. The bangs are cut in a semicircle. The back view of the haircut is a perfectly even semicircle.
Pixie
With this haircut, a short lower back of the head is modeled, the length of which smoothly extends to the temples, and volume is created in the upper part of the back of the head.
