Inna Kovaleva, a hairstyle artist, took second place at the OMS Online World Championship 2020 in the “Gala Hairstyle” category. We asked the silver medalist about what kind of work should be included in the nomination and what the difficulties of preparing for the competition are.

Nomination “Gala Hairstyle” – what does it involve?
The “Gala Hairstyle” nomination provides for an evening-style hairstyle with fantasy elements. According to competition requirements, it must be elegant, with elegant post-hair elements that harmoniously fit into the hairstyle, creating an ideal shape. This is an evening creative style, this is high fashion!
Was this your first time taking part in the OMC Online World Championship 2020? Or have you had experience participating in an offline championship format?
My first OMS World Championship took place in 2018 in Paris, where I participated in two categories: “Gala Hairstyle” and “Wedding”. Then she took second place in the team competition. My best coach, teacher and mentor is Valentina Semenovna Mikheeva. Her knowledge is priceless!
In 2020 – participation in the OMS Online World Championship 2020. And again – second place in the “Gala nomination” among participants from 45 countries! Another step taken.
Lockdown brought a new experience: training took place online, by phone and in sketches!
Both times, my favorite brought me success - Gala hairstyle, this very interesting creative work that requires a fusion of style, shape, texture and color.
Why did you decide to take part in the OMC Online World Championship?
I have always been fascinated by competition entries; I wanted to plunge into this magical artistic world myself and touch high fashion! And here it is, it’s happened: I am a participant in the competition.
How did you prepare for the championship? What difficulties did you face?
Creative work on the image began, the search for models, training, trips to Dnepropetrovsk to coach Valentina Semyonovna as part of the team.
Sometimes the national team trained in Odessa. They brought with them sleepless nights and worries, but they also revealed a team spirit in me, which is essential in this kind of competition.
The correct choice of model is also important. And for this, the master and the model must feel each other, help and support, that is, during the competition they must become one.
And one more difference: different rules were introduced in the online championship. Hairstyles are shown not on a model, but on a certified mannequin.
All this together is hard, titanic work, sleepless nights, tears, doubts and a sea of emotions.
And all thanks to my coach, my teacher and mentor - her experience and knowledge are priceless!
