Rochester blogger Sharon Wu posted a photo of herself wearing pixelated computer graphics makeup. The makeup quickly went viral and spread across Instagram at the speed of light. The trend was picked up by makeup artists and beauty bloggers, creating their own interpretations.

“I was inspired by the vintage aesthetic of arcade games and wanted to create a makeup look with 8-bit hearts,” Sharon tells Allure. “After playing around a bit, I decided to test myself and do pixel eye makeup, adding stars and hearts.”

Before the brush touched the girl's face, she drew an image in a pixel art program. “I outlined the makeup first with colored pencils, which are easier to manipulate, and then outlined the lines with water liners,” shares Sharon Wu. To create the image, the girl used a Suva Beauty Six Ten brush - with its help it is convenient to paint even the smallest elements.

The makeup work immediately inspired other beauty enthusiasts on social media, and now 8-bit makeup has become a full-fledged trend. “I didn’t expect so many people to be inspired by this makeup,” says the blogger. “I think it’s really cool to see people creating different designs and their own interpretations.”
