10 main rules of hair care
Live
Anti-hair loss shampoo doesn't really work, but dry skin turns out to be less prone to flaking? How can you easily tell if a mask contains silicones? We talked about this and more with an expert from our recent broadcast.
The guest of the broadcast on the topic “10 rules of hair care” was our regular expert, PRO Beauty Battle Hair judge, hair and scalp rehabilitation specialist, trichologist/rehabilitologist, speaker of international congresses Yulia Sedletskaya.

The first golden rule of hair care of all times and places – shampoo should be selected only according to the type of scalp, and not the structure.
I will never tire of repeating this rule. Even if a client comes and says that his hair lacks moisture and therefore he chooses a moisturizing shampoo, one must always affirm that it does not work that way.
The scalp contains the largest amount of sebaceous and sweat secretions, so under no circumstances should you ever select a shampoo based on your hair structure type. The main thing is that the shampoo helps cleanse the scalp efficiently, does not disturb the water-lipid mantle, and does not cause itching and flaking.
How to choose such a shampoo according to your scalp type, if shampoos are initially intended for colored hair, natural hair, dry hair, and so on?
Let me give you an example using anti-hair loss shampoo. There is a myth associated with this type of shampoo: the product will never be able to solve this problem. This shampoo can perfectly prevent hair loss. Suitable for healthy skin prone to oiliness and for prevention against hair loss.
Moisturizing and nourishing shampoos are only suitable for dry scalp. Again, clients often misidentify their scalp type. They think that if it peels off, they notice small particles of skin on their jacket, on their sweater, then they have dry skin. This is a mistake because a dry scalp actually doesn't flake at all.
The peeling that we see is often the consequence of a disruption in the process of skin cell division. This happens due to an external or internal factor that causes skin cells to divide faster. For example, a coloring process has occurred, the products have disrupted the water-lipid mantle, and scalp cells, instead of dividing and maturing within 28-30 days, begin to accelerate this process due to damage.
And a client with a non-dry type of scalp will get this problem; cells will accumulate and layer on the skin. And instead of thoroughly washing it all out, the client will use a moisturizing shampoo, which will contain silicones and oils, and they will accumulate more.
Dry skin type is the type that does not need frequent washing; the skin is dehydrated and hardly flakes.
Regarding washing. Many people believe that the scalp can be trained to wash. Some people are of the opinion that washing your hair often is harmful, and washing your hair once a week is a real problem.
There is also an opinion that you need to wash your hair as it gets dirty. And this is, in principle, true. But it is also important to remember the cycles of life that every person has. From birth until puberty, children can wash their hair once every 5-7 days with baby shampoo, and this is the norm. But already during puberty, you can notice that something has changed, and then you need to switch to shampoo according to your scalp type.
If the child does not have any problems, then you can even take anti-hair loss shampoo, which will prevent and wash thoroughly. And not 5-7 days, but every other day and with double washing.
It is better to wash your hair upside down. Why? While standing in the shower, clients very often do not properly wet and wash the occipital area of the head and the marginal growth line. This is where various problems arise later. In addition, for those with long hair, their hair becomes very tangled in this position.
How to care for long hair? In weekly care, I can roughly distinguish two phases: weekend care and intraweek care.
Within a week: shampoo according to the type of scalp, conditioner for 2-3 minutes, two leave-in care products: for the lengths and for the ends.
Weekend: add masks that need to be left on longer, from an hour to two.
Regarding the mask. A little life hack: how can you tell whether a mask contains silicone or not? If the mask contains silicones, then even for several hours the product will not dry out. But if the mask is natural, then after 15-30 minutes it will begin to dry.
In weekend care, for the best result, you always need to “help” the products using heat. And after the mask, be sure to close the cuticle with balm.
What about thermal protection? Do we use it every time?
The task of each such preparation is to do everything so that during drying the moisture of the preparation is evaporated, and not the moisture of the hair shaft. But despite what is written on the product label, nothing will protect your hair from high temperatures. The most important thing is to minimize this temperature. It is better to use a temperature of 150-160°C, take small strands and work the hair more thoroughly when working with a hot tool. You'll spend more time, but your hair will be less damaged.
