In what cases can a client's hair fall off during coloring?
And a note to clients
Experiments with coloring at home, mistakes made by professionals in the salon, and even processes that occur in the body - all this can affect the final result of the colorist’s work. Let's figure out what you need to pay attention to.
Clients' hair can fall out not only due to experiments at home, but also in the salon as a result of mistakes or processes occurring in the body. Natalie Silchenko , a technologist at TM BES ITALY, a former teacher at the Arsen Dekusar hairdressing school, told us about all this, and took a fundamental color course from the art director of BES ITALY Saverio Palma (Milan, Italy).
A hairdresser's worst dream is when a client's hair falls off during coloring. It may be a mystery to some why this happens, but most often the main problem lies in incorrect preliminary diagnosis or, even worse, in its absence.
Most often, our clients’ hair begins to fall out after using lightening agents, so it is extremely important to do a test strand and look at the condition, evaluate the quality of the hair and its entire “history.”
After all, it happens that visually we see hair in good condition, but we do a test strand - and the hair stretches like an elastic band and breaks, and such hair simply cannot withstand bleaching.
Repeated bleaching in one day can also “help” the client say goodbye to his hair in the literal sense. Working with high percentages of oxidizing agent in a closed form and uncontrolled dye exposure time can lead to the welding of protein in the hair and, as a result, it becomes brittle and falls out.
In addition, hair loss is affected by processes occurring in the body, especially in situations where the body is weakened and coloring is just an impetus for hair loss. This is observed in the postpartum period, when in most cases the hair falls out anyway, due to a serious illness, taking certain medications, or hormonal imbalance. There can be many reasons for hair loss, but all this can really be avoided if you do a hair diagnosis and a preliminary consultation, as this will help predict the possible result and give the client the coloring of her dreams.
