Halloween makeup as a way of self-expression
Word from the expert
Where to look for inspiration for creating looks for Halloween, how and with what to apply makeup and how to harmoniously complement it with accessories - our expert Irina Bublik tells us using the example of her own work.

sources of inspiration
Halloween is a great occasion to bring your wildest and most creative beauty fantasies to life. There are no rules, restrictions, specific technique or sequence.
Combinations of paints, textures, props and decorative objects on the face allow you to create original, effective and impressive makeup for Halloween (and not only!).
All colleagues will understand that to create such images you need inspiration. I always start by scrolling through Pinterest. Observation is the accumulated visual experience that allows us, masters, to quickly find options and bring to life the best possible ones.
Execution Features
I believe that such work requires preparation and clear thinking through the entire algorithm for creating an image. It’s better to transfer your ideas to the face chart. This will save time on filming, make the work cleaner and make the image more complete. For example, for this job, in addition to gathering the entire team, it was necessary to find all the elements for makeup, hair decorations and the wig itself. But, as they say: I see the goal - I see no obstacles.
Products selected for use
To create this makeup I needed only five positions:
- Black face painting (Make-Up Atelier Paris)
- Metallic powder (Mehron, “gold”)
- Gold flakes or foil
- Rhinestones
- False eyelashes
* Be sure to warn the model that the entire face/ears/neck and neckline will be painted over. There are few as brave as my Dasha!
Accessories as an important part of the image
Accessories were already assembled in the process from what they found in Auchan for a Halloween theme. Since it was difficult to get all the details for the image that was originally conceived, I had to improvise. They took Maleficent's horns as a basis and complemented the image with a skull, flowers, and wooden skewers. I think it turned out very cool!
Well, then we catch our zen and begin to create, allowing ourselves not to strictly follow the drawing on the face chart, but to take into account the general mood of the image. At such moments I really am in the flow, as it is fashionable to say now. During the process, I try to create different textures on the palette and, if the effect is suitable, I transfer the product to the model’s skin. To test myself for symmetry and color saturation, I take a photo on my phone and analyze it, since the camera perfectly conveys all the nuances.
Wishes for colleagues
I would like to express my deep gratitude to the entire team for supporting and facilitating the implementation of my creative idea. Models Dasha Zolotareva - for courage, patience and professional posing; Oksana Smorodinskaya - for her golden hands and help with hair decoration; to photographer Alexandra Dyadenko - for always being ready to help and cool shots, as always!
And I would like to wish my fellow makeup artists to be a little bolder, not to be afraid to show their imagination and experiment more often. Firstly, it perfectly pumps up the brain and helps to reveal your creative potential, and secondly, it allows you to noticeably stand out in the market among other beauty artists.
