The modern beauty market today offers many types of eye shadow. Today we will focus on the effects that can be achieved with their help.

Eye shadow is an indispensable product for a makeup artist. Each master’s case contains a huge number of different products, and they are all unique in their own way. Matte shadows allow you to discreetly highlight your eyes, while shimmery shades will draw all the attention to them. Depending on the finish, shadows can be divided into five types.

Matte shadows

Matte shadows can be called the most versatile and multifunctional. They are ideal for correcting the shape of the eyes and do not emphasize wrinkles, so they can be used by women of all ages. A palette of matte shadows in natural beige-peach shades should be in every makeup artist’s arsenal, and dark matte shadows are useful for creating a smokey eye and darkening makeup, as well as for highlighting wings.

It is important to remember that before applying this type of eye shadow you need to use a primer and only apply the product on top of it - this will help maintain the vibrancy of the shade. The ideal way to apply these eyeshadows is to gently tap them in, as moving from side to side will result in loss of saturation and fallout of the product.

Satin shadows

This type of makeup eyeshadow gives a matte glow effect. At first they seem matte, but if you look closely, you will notice small iridescent particles in the composition. It is thanks to them that satin shadows are applied and blended easier than matte ones, even without a primer.

Satin shadows in natural shades are great for light daytime makeup or for creating a soft accent on the eyes. But if you are faced with the task of correcting problem areas of the eyelids or radically correcting the shape of the eyes, such shadows will not be suitable. Also pay attention to satin shadows in bright shades - they fit perfectly on the eyelids, do not emphasize age-related changes and even slightly highlight the skin.

Metallic eyeshadow

Metallic shadows make the look open and literally radiant. As a rule, they are translucent - they give a bright shine, but without a rich shade.

These shadows can be applied with your fingers or a wet or dry brush. Using a wet brush will give you a dewy, mirror-like effect, while applying the eyeshadow with a dry brush will give you a semi-matte metallic effect. Metallics blend well, but are not able to maintain clear boundaries of shape.

Chrome effect eyeshadow

With the help of such shadows, you can easily make the eyes the main focus of the client’s face. The product contains fragile shiny particles that give a luxurious shine. This type of shadow can fall off, so during application, lift the client's chin higher and use protective patches in the area under the eyes.

Apply chrome effect shadows exclusively over the primer using a patting motion. Application from side to side will “eat up” their shine, and the desired effect will not be achieved. Try applying them with a damp brush - you will definitely like the result.

Eyeshadow with holographic effect

Holographic shadows can change their hue depending on the lighting. They look lighter in areas exposed to light, and darker in recessed areas. That is why it seems that several shades of shadows are used in the makeup, but in fact there is only one.
