Some people like to work with shadows, and others don’t, but every makeup artist should be able to apply them correctly. How to use them, which brushes to choose and which fashionable shadows of 2019 should you pay attention to this spring?

Shadows are an indispensable beauty product that every makeup artist has in their arsenal. With the help of shadows, you can not only give your makeup a modern sound and relevance, but also correct the shape of your eyes: raise or, conversely, lower the corners, make your eyes visually larger or smaller, more expressive and beautiful. Without shadows it is almost impossible to create a harmonious wedding makeup, prom makeup, business or classic evening look. Whatever one may say, shadows of different shades, textures and finishes are a must have for every makeup artist. To figure out how to apply shadows correctly, which brushes to use for these purposes, which techniques to give preference to in 2019 and, finally, which shadows can be considered the most fashionable this spring, we talked with an expert - makeup artist and makeup artist Olesya Koryakina .

Brushes for applying eye shadow – which ones to choose?

For application. Apply shadow to the eyelid using a rounded brush with short bristles. Different sizes of fibers will allow you to pick up the right amount of product. These brushes are the most practical - they do not leave stains or streaks and apply shadow evenly over the entire eyelid. For shading. This brush is designed to blend precise lines and create smooth transitions between multiple shades of eyeshadow. It is similar to an eyeshadow brush, only more fluffy and tapered in shape.

Step-by-step technology for applying shadows

Even out the color of your eyelid by applying a thin layer of liquid concealer. Go over the top with a fluffy brush filled with beige-pink eyeshadow, which is very popular this spring! Use purple eyeshadow and a fluffy natural brush to highlight the crease of your eyelid. Transfer the shade gradually, do not try to make it as saturated as possible right away. Layer to achieve the desired effect. Using a flat natural brush, apply dark shadows with shimmer to the entire eyelid using tapping movements. Fade the edge of the darkening a little so that the color gradually turns into purple on the orbital line.

Highlight the lower eyelid with shadow using a flat brush. Apply purple eyeshadow all over your eyelid and add a small amount of darker eyeshadow in the outer corner. Use black eyeliner to fill in the space between the eyelashes on top, as well as the mucous membrane below. Highlight the inner corner of your eye with shimmering shadows. Apply mascara to your eyelashes.

Fashionable eye shadows 2019: finishes and shades

Matte shadows. Bright shadows, reminiscent of school crayons in color and texture, were all seen at the spring-summer shows of Rodarte, Gabriela Hearst, Peter Pilotto, Byblos and many others. Despite the obvious art bias, this trend falls into the wearable category. Glitter. Yes, yes, it is still with us and continues to appear on various parts of the face. At the Valentino show, sparkling sequins were glued to the models' lips and eyelids (all the way to the eyebrows!). At the Simone Rocha show, glitter was poured into the corners of the eyes. And at the special L'Oréal Paris Le Défilé show, one of the models walked the catwalk with classic cat eyes made of gold glitter.

Pink shadows. Perhaps, the beauty industry has not seen such a boom in pink eyeshadow since the 80s (it’s not without reason that one of the main beauty innovations of the year is the cherry eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay). Badgley Mischka, Vivienne Hu, Genny, Giorgio Armani - these and many other brands acted as a united front, sending models with pink shadows on their eyelids onto the catwalk. True, the shade and form of presentation were different for everyone. At the Brandon Maxwell show, makeup artists complemented powdery, barely noticeable shadows with a classic black eyeliner, and at the Rodarte and Savage x Fenty shows, makeup artists painted bright pink shiny smokey eyeshadow on the models. This trendy eyeshadow color of 2019 brightens up any iris color, but is best suited for green eyes.
