We continue a series of articles in which we examine in detail the evolution of liposuction, the main radical method of combating excess body fat.

The principle of super-wet liposuction

1986 was a turning point in the history of fat removal – the super-wet liposuction method was invented. Although Dr. Yves-Gérard Illouz was the first to use subcutaneous injection of saline solution in the operated area, Dr. Peter Fodor is rightfully considered the founder of the super-wet liposuction technique.

The introduction of saline and adrenaline into the affected area contributed to the contraction of blood vessels and actually prevented the occurrence of severe bleeding during the operation. But still, the fat was removed with significant concomitant damage and heavy blood loss, only partially solving the task.

Usually, the volume of fluid injected is approximately equal to the amount of removed fat aspirate, and lidocaine was not part of the injected solution at that time, so from the point of view of drug intoxication, the operation was practically safe.
