Rhinoplasty vs filler correction: how to choose the optimal method
The opinion of a plastic surgeon
Every second inhabitant of the planet is dissatisfied with the shape of his nose. Modern plastic surgery makes it possible to correct appearance defects easily and quickly.
Today, rhinoplasty is one of the first places among plastic surgeries - an operation to correct the shape of the nose, which in some cases can be replaced by a more gentle procedure - nose contour plastic surgery.
Contour plastic surgery of the nose in some cases is an alternative to surgical intervention and allows the patient to get an instant result with a minimum period of rehabilitation.
How to determine indications for nose contour plastic surgery
Contouring of the nose is a non-surgical method of correcting the shape of the nose using hyaluronic acid-based filler injections. In the case of serious nasal defects or breathing problems, contour correction cannot be indicated. Sometimes it can be harmful, for example, if contour plastic surgery is performed in patients with nasal septum deformities that make nasal breathing difficult, with a defect of the external or internal valve.
In modern realities, cosmetologists do not have rhinoscopy techniques to assess the respiratory function of the nose. But it is necessary. To assess whether there are problems with nasal breathing, there is a fairly simple test called the Cottle test.
The method consists in pulling the wing of the nose in the upper-lateral direction. If at the same time nasal breathing improves, compared to the state of rest, we can talk about a positive result of the Cottle test, namely that there is an insufficiency of the nasal valve and breathing problems. If patients with a positive Cottle test result undergo nose contouring, complications such as increased nasal breathing are possible.
