About the specifics of the informed consent of the client in the field of permanent makeup

The provision of high-quality and safe permanent makeup services and legal support of the master in case of conflict situations “master-client” or “salon-client” imply the presence of a well-written informed consent of the client

One of the stages of preparation for performing permanent makeup procedures is a consultation, which may end with the issuance of an informed consent of the client to perform permanent makeup.

The importance of well-formed informed consent (hereinafter referred to as IP) is difficult to overestimate. Informed consent of the client is a legal document, the form and content of which are specific for various services.

Comprehensive approach

The main feature of permanent makeup is the combination of two components in it: biological and aesthetic.

The biological component of permanent makeup is expressed in the fact that the procedure affects the physiological processes in the body, disrupting their natural course. Performing permanent makeup is accompanied by trauma to the epidermis and upper layer of the dermis, which causes a response from the body with a characteristic inflammatory process. The introduction of a pigment at the tip of a needle into the upper layer of the skin is perceived by the immune system as the introduction of a foreign body, from which it is necessary to protect itself and, if possible, get rid of it. Without delving into the details of these processes, one must understand that the reaction of the organism to such an invasion will be individual for each client. Firstly, the master should know this, and secondly, at least in the first approximation, the client should understand this.

What is it for? It is fundamentally important to ensure that the client understands some of the ambiguity of the consequences of permanent makeup procedures, taking into account their individual perception by a particular organism. The fact is that it is precisely because of the above-mentioned reactions of the body to the procedures that the recovery period after the procedures proceeds differently, the pigment also appears individually, and further (during the process of “wearing” permanent makeup) removal of the dye from the skin also occurs purely individually. The client must be psychologically prepared for this in order to adequately respond. In this case, he will, together with the master, achieve a high-quality result, including through the implementation of procedures that complement the first one and, in the future, timely come to the procedures that support the quality.

With this approach, the client becomes an ally of the master and does not demand the impossible from him. Including - a 100% guaranteed result from the first procedure and the stability of the result for a precisely predictable period. An honest and sufficiently detailed explanation of these issues to the client is the prevention of a number of standard, unfortunately, conflict situations. It allows you to reduce the chances that the client wants to change the master. And it will also allow the master to have more clients with finished, excellent permanent makeup and employees, therefore, visual advertising for him. As a result, a qualified consultation and a conscious signature under a well-written IP is the way to the commercial success of a permanent makeup master.

The aesthetic component of permanent makeup is revealed in the very name of the service and its purpose. And the appointment of permanent makeup is the embodiment of the idea of the client as a customer and the master as a make-up artist to create a color scheme on certain areas of the skin of the face to achieve the desired aesthetic effect for a period of several months to several years.

This should be explained to the client and reflected in the IS. The client must clearly understand that the master performs exactly his order. Of course, when discussing the sketch of the future work, the master expresses his opinion as a makeup artist, but the result of the discussion is the final approval of the sketch of the future permanent makeup by the client. The responsibility of the client for the sketch is one of the key provisions of informed consent. At the same time, it should be understood that the sketch defines the boundaries of the skin area, within which the master performs permanent makeup procedures. However, the master himself is clearly responsible for the selection of the pigment.

During the signing

By signing the IP, the master and the client stipulate the main points of the procedure.

  • In its form, IP is not an agreement between two parties or a contract. It is filled in in one copy and signed by one party. However, on the first page of the IS, which explains to the client the essence of the service and the specifics of the procedures, the name of the master is indicated, his qualifications are confirmed, and obligations are given to the client on the part of the master, guaranteeing compliance with the rules and regulations governing the conduct of procedures. The master also guarantees the confidentiality of information received from the client.
  • The IS should contain the personal data of the client, an assessment of his well-being and the characteristics of his health.
  • Informing the client about possible medical contraindications is necessarily accompanied by a recommendation to resolve this issue either with your doctor or at a consultation with specialized doctors in treatment and diagnostic centers.
  • Clarification of anesthesia issues allows you to make a choice taking into account the individual threshold of pain sensitivity and the client's susceptibility to various anesthetics.
  • Bringing to the client the need to follow the advice of the master on the care of the wound surface and the impact of this aspect on the quality of procedures in the IS is given special attention, including recommendations on the behavior of the client in case of complicated healing. The master himself must be aware that for a responsible decision to provide assistance with many complications, the qualifications and experience of a practicing dermatologist are required.
  • The final moment of IP is the conscious permission of the client to perform procedures with an expression of unconditional trust in the master.

What IS Provides

When the client examines all the provisions of the informed consent, the master should be nearby to comment and clarify the meaning of the issues set out in the IP. The master must understand his interest in the fact that the client unambiguously and adequately understood all the provisions of the IP and consciously put the last authorizing signature.

Well-written informed consent ensures:

  • insurance against claims against the master in case of individual reactions of the body to procedures that are not dependent on the master;
  • prevention of conflict situations and the basis for their speedy resolution;
  • moral and legal responsibility of the client for medical and other contraindications.
