Ksenia Chumak about the work of a nail brand technologist: what does he do and how to become one?

Most recently, the Pro Nails Instagram account hosted a joint live broadcast with Ksenia Chumak , a leading technologist at the Komilfo brand, a developer of training programs and techniques, and a speaker at numerous nail forums. Together with an expert, we understood all the issues that relate to the work of a product technologist in the field of nail aesthetics.

Ksenia, tell us what responsibilities a nail brand technologist performs?

A technologist is a combination of many people rolled into one. This is not just an ambassador or brand representative.

Firstly, the technologist is the first to receive the product that the brand is going to launch into production and tests it on himself. We do not test products on animals or our clients. If there are any inaccuracies, we refine the product and make adjustments, for example, the product needs to be thickened, added plasticizers or more pigment. These are hours, weeks and months of improvements. One product can be developed even within six months!

Who comes up with new product concepts and how?

Every season we develop new collections of colored gel polishes, because, as you know, Komilfo has very wide color palettes. And we need to constantly come up with tones that are not yet in stock. Therefore, we paint colors, experiment, add one shade or another to get the desired result. And only then do we send it to production.

What knowledge and skills does a master need to have to become a technologist and stand out among other candidates when submitting their resume?

As a rule, the brand itself selects its own technologist, or at least looks after it. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to find a free vacancy for a nail brand technologist - I have never met such a person.

For example, we cooperate only with top-level craftsmen who have a huge amount of knowledge, who love our products and do quality work. And according to certain criteria, we choose our so-called favorites who have completed such “internships.” And then we can make an offer to the best of them to become our technologist.

Does a master who wants to become a technologist need to study chemistry?

Today, the issue of materials chemistry is quite well open, many schools and courses give this information to their students, so I advise all masters to familiarize themselves with it, even if you are not going to be a technologist.

Our brand had instructors and teachers who told us all the details about the technical chemistry of materials so that we understood how to work with the products. Without knowledge of the chemistry of materials, we cannot sensibly evaluate and give any assessment to the product that will enter the market. Therefore, we, technologists, are obliged to understand this like no one else.
