Almond. No matter what they call this nail shape! And oval, and olive, and even just “sharp nails.” But for me, as a fan of this form, it is important to accurately define its designation: these are two lines emerging from the growth points and smoothly rounded in the center.
Almonds suit almost everyone! It is very comfortable to wear, if only because it has only one point of contact with the surface, unlike a square. And how it emphasizes the femininity of the hands, visually lengthening the fingers!
How to Create a Stylish Almond Nail Shape
So, first we should always “scan” the source. After all, the final result largely depends on the condition of natural nails. Length, depth of the C-bend, shape - you must take all this into account in order to achieve the most competent result!
Let's start by building the form. The lower parallel should emerge clearly from the growing point and smoothly curve into the nose. In this case, the so-called upper parallel should be a line that smoothly emerges from under the proximal fold, rises to the apex, and then smoothly disappears at the end - without sagging or overloading the free edge.
Next, you should pay attention to the natural transverse bend of the nail plate.
If the natural arch is deep enough, you'll end up with a gorgeous almond! Whereas for flatter nails (and often this is a fairly wide plate in relation to the length), a prerequisite for obtaining the desired result will be a length above average.
What does it mean? The shorter the stated length, the blunter the “nose” will be, and vice versa - if the shape is longer, we can create a “nose” by crimping the substrate. If we want to visually lengthen and narrow the nail plate, we definitely can’t do without length.
Remember: you shouldn’t follow the client’s lead and make “cat’s claws” without having the required length. In an attempt to narrow the shape, you will simply remove all the side nails and end up with sawed-off, upturned nails.
Therefore, I recommend discussing the possible outcome with the client before the procedure, so that the outcome does not come as a surprise to anyone. And explain that if the client wants to wear an almond, and not an oval, then architecturally we cannot do without length.
Another important point that many crafters miss is to remember to turn your client's pen away from you and center the shape you created. Then a flawless manicure is guaranteed!
