How a manicurist can work with a damaged nail plate
Practical tips and tricks

In an ideal world, clients have healthy, strong nails, and the master’s task is to emphasize their natural beauty with a stylish manicure. In reality, we often encounter clients with downright bad nails. What to do?
As in any profession, manicurists also have good and difficult clients. And if everything is clear with the first ones, then the second category is most often people with problem nails who come to the master not just for a stylish nail design, but also for a solution to their problem.
Today, together with expert Yulia Yakimchuk, we figured out what defects of the nail plate are most common, what are their causes, and how a manicurist can work with such problematic nails (uneven, too short, etc.) in order to, no matter what, get great result.

First of all, let's figure out what nail deformation is and how it happens. Thus, deformation is various changes in the surface and shape of the nail plates. The most common types of nail deformation are: longitudinal or transverse grooves, convex nails, concave spoon-shaped, flat, “thimble-shaped” deformation, etc. To determine the causes of nail deformation, it is necessary to contact a dermatologist (mycologist, podologist).
Approximately half of the cases of nail deformities are caused by fungal infections - onychomycosis. In this case, I strongly recommend that you consult a dermatologist and treat the problem, since any coating can worsen the situation and you may lose your nails altogether. Both clients and professionals need to remember forever: the fungus is under no circumstances covered with gel polish or covered with prosthetics.
Another popular reason for changes in the shape of the nail plates is their mechanical damage: bruises, pinching, improper treatment of the cuticle during manicure or pedicure, improper cutting of nails. In this case, nail deformation can be caused not only by trauma to the nail plate itself, but also to the nail bed or nail fold.
Nail deformation can be prevented by avoiding injuries to the growth zone of the nail during manicure and pedicure, avoiding wearing tight shoes, protecting hands when working with aggressive liquids, and using high-quality nail care products.
A master can work with mechanical deformation of nails and correct the situation, modeling a new architecturally correct nail. Only modeling can correct rodent nails and give them a visually attractive and neat appearance.
The same modeling will help if the client has short nails and dreams of length. At the same time, it is very important to follow all the modeling rules, the correct architecture, and take into account all the factors... Why is this important? In my basic courses “Nail Modeling from A to Z,” I always compare an incorrectly modeled nail with braces on teeth: if they are installed incorrectly, there will be no result in the form of a beautiful and even smile. What I'm getting at: if you model your nails incorrectly, this can lead to deformation of the nail plate - what we talked about at the very beginning.
Dear girls, take care of your hands and good health to you!
