How to become a makeup artist from scratch? Is it possible to learn makeup on your own?
Of course, there are many online courses that will help you learn the basics of makeup and lift the veil on the beauty world. But you need to understand that if you want to become a professional, you simply need the help of a competent teacher. I focus not on the master, but on the teacher. Why? You can paint very coolly, feel color, but have absolutely no skills to transfer your knowledge. Consistency is important for a teacher. And when you get to such a specialist, the matter will remain only with your desire.
How to choose makeup courses?
First of all, pay attention to reviews - they matter a lot. Then on to the course program - it must include both a theoretical and a practical block. If we are talking about a basic course, it should not be shorter than 30 lessons - this is a critical minimum. They definitely won’t be able to teach you anything in 10 lessons.
Ideally, there should be a personal acquaintance with the teacher. You must energetically match each other. Another important point is the models. If the training center provides models, this greatly facilitates the learning process.
How to get started?
A lot, a lot of work with models. Participate in TFP projects with photographers. Shape your image. Post a lot of beautiful works on Instagram and all possible social networks. Have bachelorette parties. All this will help you get your first clients, and then everything depends on the quality of the work. If the quality is decent, the increase will be exponential.

To create your first portfolio, start working on a TFP basis with clothing stores (ideally, wedding salons or evening dress stores), models, and photographers. Such work will help not only to create a high-quality portfolio, but also to acquire the necessary contacts in our profession.
How not to go broke on cosmetics?
You don’t need a lot of cosmetics for the first time. If your courses include a materials science lesson, the teacher will tell you how to properly complete a makeup artist’s case so that the amount does not go off scale, but at the same time you have everything you need at hand. Many products are interchangeable, but this requires an understanding of textures and color science.
What should a beginner need to be prepared for?
You need to be prepared for the fact that the profession of a makeup artist is really a profession. You need to sensibly assess the situation and accept the fact that it is impossible to become the best in a year. You need to work hard, study, believe in yourself. Everything will work out if you put in the effort!
