Types of foundations: what do you need to know about each of them?
Detailed guide
There are a huge number of types of foundations, which are replenished with new subtypes every year. How to understand them, what skin types they are suitable for and how to apply them, let’s understand the material.
Foundation is a product that determines the appearance of a girl’s skin after applying makeup. This means that this is one of the most important beauty products, which will provide either a beautiful and natural tone, or, conversely, will highlight all the imperfections of the skin if chosen incorrectly. That is why every makeup artist needs to understand the variety of foundations depending on the coverage density.
Mineral powder
This foundation comes in powder form, and its main feature is the thinnest coverage. Its particles dissolve in sebum and primer within 20-30 minutes, so you can speed up the process using a moisturizing spray applied on top of the powder.
It is not able to radically change skin tone or disguise imperfections, and therefore is suitable for refreshing or lightly correcting skin tone without noticeable pigmentation or rashes. Mineral powder will be a wonderful solution for aging, hypersensitive and irritated skin.
Apply powder with a large brush over primer.
Liquid foundation fluid
This is a very light and almost weightless foundation that provides thin coverage. Fluid foundation is something between a foundation and a moisturizing serum, and therefore its consistency is quite liquid, often available in the form of a bottle with a dropper.
This type of foundation is ideal for dry and very dry skin without severe rashes and age spots, because it smoothes out flaking well. But this product is not suitable for girls with oily skin, as it will leave behind an oily sheen.
It is best to apply foundation using a light duo-fiber brush or a damp makeup sponge .
Liquid foundation
The most popular and versatile foundation in cream form is liquid foundation. It is easy to apply and shade, and copes well with small pimples, minor redness and capillaries.
Liquid foundation is suitable for girls with normal, dry and combination skin, with the only exception being oily skin types - after a while an oily sheen will appear on it. Since this type of foundation is the most versatile, every makeup artist should have it in their case.
This type of foundation can be applied with brushes, a damp sponge or your fingers.
Cushion
This is a light tone, applies very quickly and easily, moisturizes the skin well and can have very decent coverage. The cushion itself is a sponge richly soaked in liquid foundation. Its main advantage is the applicator, which is capable of applying the product with the thinnest film, but at the same time hiding pores and other imperfections.
Cushions are best suited for girls with dry, aged and normal skin.
BB and CC creams
These types of foundations have long been loved not only by ordinary girls, but also by makeup artists. Asian foundations, as a rule, adapt well to skin tone, even out the texture, making the skin radiant and smooth.
What is the difference between BB and CC cream? BB cream is designed to evenly tone the skin of the face, and CC cream recognizes color defects and neutralizes them. In addition, CC cream has a lighter texture than BB cream.
Such beauty products can be applied in any way convenient for you, but they respond best to the warmth of your fingers and seem to melt from them, which ensures uniform application and blending.
Mattifying foundation
As you may have guessed, mattifying foundation gives an instant matte effect on the skin, blends well and has a thick texture. It is created specifically for oily and combination skin, and therefore it contains absorbent components that absorb excess sebum.
It is best to apply this foundation with a soft brush and light movements.
Cream powder
Cream powder is a hybrid product that combines the properties of foundation and powder. The product makes the face matte, thereby creating the effect of ideal skin without greasy shine and visible imperfections. Therefore, cream powder is perfect for girls with oily and combination skin.
It is best applied with a damp sponge.
Thick foundation
This product has a dense and oily texture - one that can hide all imperfections on the skin and also protect it from environmental influences. This tone can be applied not only to girls with problem skin, but also to clients with sensitive, thin and aging skin. It will protect your face from low and high temperatures, wind, frost.
It should be applied with a damp brush, and you can finish shading with a damp sponge - it will help nail the product to the skin.
Cream camouflage
The densest foundation. With its help you can hide age spots and birthmarks, scars and more serious imperfections. Such products should not be used for client makeup, but they will be a wonderful solution for fantasy makeup or makeup for a photo shoot. The basis of such creams is made up of coloring pigments, dense waxes and silicones.
Applying camouflage creams is quite difficult, but at the same time they are very durable and adhere perfectly to the skin.
Stick
A foundation stick is a foundation in the form of a pencil. The sticks have a very high concentration of pigment, so they can be safely used as correctors and thicken the coating only on certain areas of the face. The stick should not be applied all over the face so that the client’s face does not turn into a greasy mask.
First, tint your face with a light fluid or liquid foundation. Then apply the stick to those areas that the previous foundation failed to cover. Use a damp sponge to blend the product to blur the lines between the two products.
