“Soap” eyebrows, or soap brows, are a big trend in 2019 that cannot be ignored in 2020. What is its essence and how to style eyebrows with soap, we explain in the material.

Soap eyebrows: why are they so popular?

The trend of “soapy” eyebrows took off on Instagram in 2019, as the rules of the game are dictated by the fashion for thick, beautiful and wide eyebrows. The trend was happily picked up by beauty bloggers and stars, because soap (which is used instead of the usual gel) gives eyebrows a beautiful texture, soft shape, volume and desired thickness.

At the same time, the eyebrows look natural, and there is no need to fill them in with a colored pencil or liner. Moreover, makeup artists claim that soap does a much better job of fixing eyebrows than regular gel. The thing is that gels are developed on a water basis, so when a person sweats, the fixation weakens.

Allure spoke with experts to find out all the subtleties and nuances of using soap to style eyebrows.

Swedish makeup artist Linda Hallberg says makeup artists have been using soap to set their eyebrows for quite some time, but it took an Instagram shot to make the trick mainstream. Linda explains that soap is the easiest and fastest way to make eyebrows visually fluffier and thicker , and in other words, fashionable and trendy.

Brow artist Robin Evans attributes the soapy brow trend to advice from Rihanna's makeup artist Priscilla Ono. It was after her recommendation that the use of soap for styling eyebrows began to gain popularity every day.

How to style eyebrows with soap?

Using soap to style your eyebrows couldn't be easier. Robin Evans advises to start by combing your eyebrows up, and then applying soap to the hairs in thin layers, ensuring a secure hold. If a girl has very thin and sparse eyebrows, the makeup artist recommends adding a little color.

How to choose eyebrow soap?

Not every soap is suitable for fixing eyebrows. It is important to choose a product with glycerin in its composition - due to the relatively low pH, the risk of skin irritation is reduced to zero.

Linda Hallberg recommends using clear soap as it does not leave a whitish residue. In addition, glycerin soap is usually transparent.

There is also a special soap designed for eyebrow styling. Today it is produced by several brands, so there is plenty to choose from.

Disadvantages of styling eyebrows with soap

This method has several "buts". First, soap can get into your eyes and cause a burning sensation if your forehead gets sweaty or if there are drops of water on your face. Secondly, regular use of soap on your eyebrows can cause skin irritation. Thirdly, layering soap on top of foundation in the eyebrow area can look unsightly, so you should work with this product very carefully.

For these reasons, beauty chemist Ginger King advises using eyebrow styling soap occasionally rather than on an ongoing basis. Accordingly, this method is ideal for makeup artists, but ordinary girls should use this beauty product only occasionally.
