Shine bright: what is strobing and how to do it?
Always up-to-date technology
The gentle glow on clean skin has not lost ground in makeup for several years. Let's figure out what strobing is and what it's used with in 2021.
Limit yourself to a soft highlight on the cheekbones or go all out and provide intense radiance to all prominent parts of the face - the choice is yours! In 2021, strobing is still relevant, but is revealed in a variety of interpretations depending on the wishes of the makeup artist and client.
Using this technique, you can create the effect of healthy and fresh skin, a dewy glow or an expressive shine. The strobing technique can be used independently for soft and non-contrast correction, or in combination with contouring or bronzing.

What is strobing?
Strobing is the correction of the face using light accents, giving the face relief due to highlights on the protruding parts of the face: the top of the cheekbones, the back of the nose, the tick above the upper lip, the temple area, the edge of the chin. Most often, the strobing effect is used for natural and daytime makeup.
What products are needed for strobing?
For strobing, a highlighter is used: dry, liquid or cream. When choosing a dry highlighter, pay attention to its grind. The smaller the shimmering particles, the more natural and soft the highlight on the skin will be. Use the same approach when choosing between liquid and cream highlighters.
Highlighters are also divided into warm, cool and neutral undertones. Warm – these are beauty products in all golden and peach shades. Cool highlighters tend to have a pearl, milky, blue or pink tint, while neutral ones are beige.
How to do makeup using the strobing technique?
For a natural highlight, use liquid or cream highlighter . Apply it with your fingers using light patting movements. If you're using a dry highlighter, pick up the product with a soft brush, buff off any excess on the back of your hand before applying to the high points of your face.
For everyday makeup, apply the product to the temple area, upper cheekbones, upper lip and bridge of the nose. For those with oily skin, highlight only the upper part of the cheekbone and under the brow bone.
