Professional and non-professional cosmetics: what is the difference?
Let's figure it out
The huge selection of cosmetic brands sometimes leaves makeup artists at a loss when trying to find the perfect products. There is an opinion that professional cosmetics are always the best choice. Is it so?
Unprofessional decorative cosmetics
Ordinary decorative cosmetics, which are sold in most stores, are intended for individual use by the consumer at home and are limited solely to decorative (aesthetic) function. In terms of its composition, it is quite gentle, easy to apply and also easy to wash off, without being particularly stable.
Foundations from non-professional cosmetics are usually light, translucent, very comfortable and can stay on the skin for about five to six hours. Usually they are presented in only a few tones, without much difference in texture and density. Non-professional decorative cosmetics are most often offered in natural, calm shades that every girl can use.
Often, products from non-professional brands can be immediately selected in the desired and fashionable color; they do not require additional layers of mother-of-pearl and shine. As a rule, makeup collections are made up of popular shades and commercially successful colors in the current season.
Professional cosmetics
Professional cosmetics allow you to solve a wider range of specific problems - effectively hide flaws in appearance, correct facial features, ensure long-lasting makeup, adapt makeup so that, for example, it looks flawless on camera.
Such cosmetics are intended for creating makeup on special occasions (for example, weddings or graduations), where photo and video shooting always takes place. That is, when long-term makeup is needed, hiding all skin imperfections for a long time.
But it is important to understand that professional decorative cosmetics are not suitable for daily use: they are quite dense and heavy for the skin. An example is a foundation, which almost always contains silicone, when applied, a durable film is formed, creating the illusion of perfectly smooth and even skin. At the same time, it somewhat delays the breathing of the skin and prevents its hydration.
In addition to their aesthetic function, professional products are often enriched with more effective ingredients, while mass market brands of non-professional cosmetics often include more synthetic and less expensive ingredients in their products.
To summarize, professional decorative cosmetics often use advanced developments, contain more pigments, and are also presented in a wide palette of shades to meet the individual needs of any type of appearance. Based on this, you need to choose professional products based on the composition, the principle of the product’s purpose and the result you want to achieve.
Of course, there are differences between professional and non-professional decorative cosmetics, but this is not the main thing. If you thoroughly master your professional skills, it won’t make much difference what brand of cosmetics you have in your hands.
Therefore, learn to work with different decorative products - both expensive, prestigious ones, and cheap, not particularly popular ones. The difference in their recipes is small, but often among non-professional brands there are those that surprise not only with their price, but also delight with their properties.
