The second round of the PRO Beauty Battle Hair fight without rules has already started, which means it’s time to sum up the results of the first round, find out the opinion of the judges and ask for advice for the participants in the next stages.

The first round of the PRO Beauty Battle Hair has just recently come to an end, and the second round has already started, featuring themes such as Best Barber, Braid and Curls.

We decided to ask our judges about their impressions of judging and the first round of competition entries. In addition, they also provided some tips for future participants on how to better present their work.

Arsen Dekusar, judge PRO Beauty Battle Hair, founder and creative director of the Arsen Dekusar studio brand, author and coordinator of the project “AD studio TV - Internet channel of hairdressing”, creator of the line of tools for hairdressers Arsen Dekusar studio

- What are your impressions of the first round of PRO Beauty Battle?

The impressions are good, but I would like to see more participants.

- What is your opinion about the format of such a battle? In your opinion, does it have a future?

The format is excellent, since each master can do the work in a comfortable environment and at a convenient time. It’s great that the participants are not tied to the venue, and for beginners this is a good opportunity to express themselves.

- How do you like the works that you had the chance to judge? Perhaps you will have tips and recommendations for participants who will come to us for the second round?

I would like to see better quality work. Masters often concentrate on the coloring or hairstyle itself, but forget that it is also important to correctly show all the beauty of the work performed. I would like to see more harmony between work, image and photography.

- What are your impressions of the first round of PRO Beauty Battle?

This is my first time participating in online judging. It was a little difficult for me to judge, because the photos provided by the masters were taken from artistic, creative angles. I advise you to provide angles for evaluation that would better demonstrate both the shape of the hairstyle and the combination. If we are talking only about the hairstyle, then there are enough such photos, but if we are talking about the integrity of the image, then we would like more angles of the work so that we can examine the hairstyle in more detail, more accurately and more fairly.

- What is your opinion about the format of such a battle? In your opinion, does it have a future?

I believe that this format has its place. As I said above, it would be better to shoot the works from more accurate angles. I would also like a clearer goal and task for the work, especially in terms of style. If we are talking about creativity, then each of the hairstyles was creative, each master conveyed in it how he saw and felt his model. I would give clearer assignments and clearer perspectives so that online assessments could be more accurate and honest.

- How do you like the works that you had the chance to judge?

I can say that the levels of masters are different. Before judging, I also looked at the portfolio and participants’ pages. It seems to me that the masters were different in their style. Thus, one participant in the Wedding theme has elements of work that are more classic for today - ribs, and we can give preference to her for maintaining the trend. The second work could be highlighted for its creativity, despite the fact that it is not in trend, but it has its own idea and direction. Both girls are different, different works, in different stylistic directions. It was a little difficult for me to judge the entries because of this.

- Perhaps you will have some advice and recommendations for the participants who will come to us for the second round?

I would like at least a couple of angles to be not fantasy, but aimed at the elements that the master wants to demonstrate, since it is from them that one can evaluate the purity of the work. And if we talk about the holistic image, all the photographs were quite concise and informative.

I would like to advise future participants to pay more attention to how the work is photographed. Because we, the judges, evaluate a static picture. We can’t get closer to the work and take a better look at it.

- What are your impressions of the first round of PRO Beauty Battle?

It’s very cool that now such a format of online beauty competitions has been born in Ukraine! You guys are great!

- What is your opinion about the format of such a battle? In your opinion, does it have a future?

An excellent format, in my opinion, based on current realities! Moreover, abroad, in the USA, for example, or even in Russia, such formats have existed for quite a long time. And the fact that we now have our own Beauty Battle in Ukraine is very cool, I think!

- How do you like the works that you had the chance to judge?

Unfortunately, there were not as many participants in the first round as we would have liked, because there was a desire to see and evaluate as many works as possible! But the works that I had the opportunity to judge were very pleasantly surprising and even inspired. I am sure that with each lap the competition will gain more and more momentum, the competition will become tougher, and the judges will have to work so hard.

- Perhaps you will have some advice and recommendations for the participants who will come to us for the second round?

I think the most important thing is not to be afraid to turn your creativity to the maximum and not to be shy about embodying the most daring ideas in your work; perhaps they will bring you well-deserved recognition and victory!
