The competition theme in our seventh round, called “Pompadour Haircut,” will definitely appeal to barbers and men’s haircutters who love to experiment. What characteristics of this haircut exist and what the judges will pay attention to during the evaluation - we talk in the material.

Now the pompadour is associated with men's haircuts, but the hairstyle itself owes its name to the historical person Madame de Pompadour, the favorite of Louis XV. The bold and defiant hairstyle did not catch on in those days, and only in the 20s of the 20th century did people pay attention to it again.

In the 50s of the 20th century, rock and rollers were inspired by this hairstyle and created their own style. So the pompadour haircut, or simply “pump”, became a symbol of the era and such personalities as Elvis Presley, Little Richard, James Dean, Marlon Brando.

The main characteristic of a pompadour haircut is its pronounced curl. At the same time, the temporal and occipital areas can be trimmed in any shape, namely both classically and using the fade technique. In this haircut, great attention is paid to hair styling. When styling, the hair on the temporal zones is directed away from the face, and a cob is formed in the parietal zone. This is volume at the top of the head, smoothed sides, and the haircut itself is very smooth and streamlined.

The pompadour can be classified as both a competitive and everyday haircut. The only difference is in the length of the hair - the longer, the more extravagant and artistic, there are always variations. But in commerce, the pompadour is very popular.

This haircut requires special attention when styling. Do not forget that hair length, thickness, texture should be optimal. It should not be performed on hair that is too heavy or curly.

It is a well-known fact that Elvis Presley wore this hairstyle and thereby gave it special popularity and recognition. This hairstyle carries the energy of the holiday, creates a mood, and is associated with the stage.

When evaluating this work, I first of all pay attention to the overall impression. The hairstyle should convey the mood of the holiday.

Also important is the frequency of work, silhouette, adaptation, that is, how suitable this hairstyle is for the model. And, of course, creativity, I always want to see modern creative solutions. I really like it when they combine modern men's haircutting techniques with established classics.

Therefore, I recommend to all participants not to be afraid to combine and create. The main thing is cleanliness of work and maintaining shape.
