Bright, catchy, unusual and deliberately theatrical eyelashes have firmly established themselves in makeup looks of 2020, and we are happy about this turn!

Let's be honest - eyelashes rarely play the first fiddle in makeup. As a rule, lips or eyes take all the attention when girls use colorful lipsticks, eye shadows or rich shades of eyeliners. But it rarely comes to eyelashes: as a rule, we limit ourselves to black or at most dark blue mascara if we want to give our eyes additional depth.

But in 2019, makeup artists remembered that eyelashes can be a full-fledged beauty accent. Indeed, why not? At fashion shows they began to pay more attention, gradually forming a new trend that was happily picked up by makeup artists around the world.

Spider legs effect

To create a 60s-inspired look or add a retro touch to modern makeup, makeup artists apply Twiggy-style eyelashes to models. The legendary British model proved that clumping eyelashes can look beautiful, making your eyes look more expressive and your eyes wide open. The effect of “spider legs” gives the image innocence and childish naivety, for which makeup gurus especially love it.

Fans of this technique include well-known makeup artists Pat McGrath , James Molloy and Peter Philips - they have used it more than once at the shows of Dior, Marc Jacobs, Gucci and Prada. Last year, Pat even released her own brand of volumizing mascara, which makes creating Twiggy lashes a breeze.

Decorative false eyelashes

But makeup artists went further and exaggerated the trend, using incredibly long and thick false eyelashes that everyone will definitely notice. Spectacular and sometimes downright shocking decorative eyelashes can make an image a real work of art. Needless to say, they have become extremely popular on the catwalks of major fashion weeks.

Decorative eyelashes were lucky to bask in the hottest rays of glory after the Valentino Couture spring-summer 2019 show. Pat McGrath outdid herself by creating 3D makeup with false feather eyelashes, which many makeup artists subsequently tried to replicate in creative photography.

Neon eyelashes

Another trend for 2020 that fashion weeks predicted for us is bright eyelashes in neon shades: light green, lemon, turquoise, fuchsia or deep purple. Makeup artists color both the upper and lower eyelashes with colored mascara and feel free to make the most of it.

To accentuate neon lashes, skip eyeshadow and bright eyeliners, and use clear gloss or natural lipstick on your lips. Well, if you plan to create a colorful explosion, choose a contrasting lip makeup option.

Some of the eyelash trends will remain confined to fashion shows and art photography. But the effect of “spider legs” and neon shades of mascara can be safely used in everyday life!
