Makeup for TV presenters: main features and rules
Take note
Creating makeup for TV presenters is a special form of art, because makeup in the frame should look natural, but at the same time hide even the smallest imperfections that the camera can catch.
If you plan to work on the set of a TV show or TV show, you should definitely familiarize yourself with the main rules that allow you to get the job done efficiently. It is not enough for a makeup artist to apply makeup coolly - it is important to know all the features and nuances of working with a camera and studio light, as well as understand how to correctly perform makeup on the face, eyes and lips, depending on the specifics.
How to work with a camera and lighting, why experienced makeup artists only need 15-20 minutes to do makeup for television, which foundations and powders to give preference to, and why you should avoid lip gloss when working with TV presenters - says our regular expert Olesya Koryakina .

To put it briefly, the main features of makeup on television are speed, density, naturalness, elimination of unnecessary glare and shine on the face (cameras don’t like them), temperature and color saturation!
Working with the camera and lighting
I can say with confidence that the final result (the makeup we see on TV screens) almost always depends on the camera and lighting! If there is no one to tell you, then guide yourself and look at the result of your work in the frame (this is allowed almost everywhere and always), and correct what is necessary on the spot.
It is important to understand that the camera “eats” the colors of cosmetic products, as well as the density and richness of makeup in much the same way as in photography. Therefore, I recommend not using pink and lilac shades - from distant angles they resemble bruises. The correction needs to be applied in a thick layer, since it is the oily textures that the video camera does not “eat up”.
Express makeup
It is also worth noting that the makeup should be incomplete: no pencil technique, just shadows and correction. There are practically no people with obvious facial problems on television. Most TV presenters and TV show guests have the correct facial features, so, as a rule, there is no need to adjust anything. I would call this makeup express makeup. It takes me about 15-20 minutes when I apply it to the host of the morning show “Rank with Ukraine”.
Working with the face
Facial makeup is the most important step when working on television. I recommend using specially designed HD powders and foundations, which, with dense coverage and careful correction of all imperfections, give the skin the most natural look, which is important when working with sensitive cameras.
Practicing the skills of toning and layering different shades to create depth and light plays a key role! It is important not to overload or weigh down the skin, because if the operator uses close-ups, such details will be readable on the face. We use powder that is as light and fine as possible. The blush should be fresh, preferably peach, but not pink.
It is important not to forget to apply the foundation to all exposed areas of the skin - ears, neck, décolleté. The skin tone of the body should not differ from the complexion.
Features of lip makeup
Lip makeup is also important. When performing it, be sure to use a pencil - it will help make the lip contour perfectly even.
Excess shine when shooting a video is undesirable, so I always use matte lipstick instead of lip gloss. You can choose any shade, but it is preferable that it be more saturated than we are used to using in life. Also, the TV presenter’s outfit and the color of the studio are always taken into account - lip color almost always depends on these factors!
Important points when working on television are also speed and the fastest possible response to any situation, especially if the filming is live!
