Makeup for dark-skinned girls: main rules and features
It is important to know

Let's get acquainted with the main rules of makeup for dark-skinned girls from famous makeup artists. You can definitely trust them!
Fortunately, nowadays women with dark and dark skin have no difficulty in choosing the right shade of foundation. Many brands present a variety of shades of brown in their assortment, so that every girl can find the perfect beauty product for herself.
But good tone is not enough to create professional makeup. That's why we translated the advice of two celebrity makeup artists, Ashunta Sheriff-Kendricks and AJ Crimson, for Byrdie, who know from their own experience how to properly apply makeup on dark skin and what products to use.
"I think it's great that the voices of black women on social media have resonated to the point where more brands feel the need to expand their makeup lines because these women deserve diversity," says AJ.
Don't forget about the difference in shades
If you think that the complexion of dark-skinned girls is the same in all areas, this leads to one of the main mistakes. The center of the face is usually the lightest, which is where AJ Crimson recommends starting your foundation application. By performing this action, you simultaneously hide the imperfections that exist on the skin and highlight it. Start with the lightest shade and create the first layer.
Then you will see lines for correction - along the hairline, in the jaw area and cheekbones. To define the shadows on your face, go over these areas with a warmer shade of foundation .
The third area that is a different color from the previous ones is the area below the hairline, between the eyebrows, on the forehead and around the jawline. Use a shade of foundation that perfectly matches your actual complexion and apply it over the first two layers. This method will help the three shades blend together to create a natural finish. AJ recommends trying AJ Crimson Dual Skin Foundation.
Pre-test the tone
To perform perfect makeup for girls with dark and dark skin, do not forget to test the product before applying cosmetics. Apply the shade to your chin if you are looking for a beauty product to create shadow on your skin.
Ashunta Sheriff-Kendricks recommends checking out products like Black Radiance's Perfect Blend Foundation for women with cinnamon skin tones, and for darker complexions, she loves using the Fenty Beauty Pro Filter Foundation.
Play with lipstick color
AJ believes that girls with dark skin can wear a variety of shades of lipstick, as most colors look very beautiful against dark skin. When choosing a bright shade, make sure it has a warm undertone.
“Always choose warmer and deeper shades from the color spectrum. Layering works well in this case. I like to use a darker lipstick as a base and then fill in my lips with something bright on top. One of my favorite shades from the S+M Sultry and Matte Lipstick It Girl collection is LayDee Lyke. It's a really beautiful warm pink that's great for dark skin tones,” says Ashunta.
Among the famous makeup artist's favorite lipsticks are also S+M Sultry and Matte Lipstick in the shades Subculture, Boy Bye and Love Jones. She also highlights several shades of lipsticks that look good on all dark skin tones.
“There are universal shades like MAC Ruby Woo or The Lip Bar Purple Rain lipsticks for women of color, no matter their skin tone,” she notes.
Use highlighter
AJ Crimson loves using Danessa Myricks Enlight Illuminators to create beautiful highlights on skin. This beauty product looks especially amazing if you use a three-step foundation application system. Otherwise, the makeup will look flat and unnatural.
Ashunta agrees that Danessa Myricks' Enlight Illuminators look amazing on dark skin tones. Her favorites are also the Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlighter.
“I believe there are a lot more options for beauty products for black girls now than when I was a junior makeup artist. And probably more options than my mother and grandmother had. I believe that we are making progress and progressing,” emphasizes Ashunta Sheriff-Kendricks.
