How to use styling products correctly?
There are some subtleties
It would seem that what could be so difficult about using hairspray or powder? But you need to know how to work with all styling products.
Certain rules exist almost everywhere, so even the use of styling products is no exception. In addition, there are certain stages in applying a particular product. It all depends on the individual hair structure and the client’s wishes.
Anastasia Yatkova , absolute champion of Belarus, Finland, Greece, Italy, Russia and Poland, international class judge, head of the Hair Theater beauty salon , shared her experience and talked about the intricacies of using styling products that will definitely make your work easier.
Creating volume in styling
For example, if the hairstyle is on loose hair, and the hair is dense, heavy and thick, then it makes no sense to overload the length with styling.
Many people use foam to make their hair sticky and manageable, but on the contrary, it makes them unruly. Each hair is enveloped in a kind of film - thus creating volume. It turns out that all the hairs are separated from the total mass. This contributes to a seasonal, very uncomfortable phenomenon - electrification of hair. In addition, after shaping, for example, with thermal devices, it is difficult to correct anything in an almost created hairstyle. It will no longer be possible to comb or style it any other way.
The most convenient styling product today is powder. It is not suitable for everyone, but for some hairdressers it has completely replaced foams for root volume, mousses, sprays that are applied before drying, or dry shampoo, which removes greasy hair from the root part of the head, thereby refreshing the appearance of the hair.
How to use powder?
- the crown area is divided into partings 1 cm thick;
- from a distance of 5-10 cm from above, sprinkle the root zone with very light movements;
- we pass strand by strand and when the entire top of the head is worked, we beat the powder with our hands in the root zone so that it disperses evenly.
This style lasts a very long time, and the method itself is suitable for both thick and thin hair. They become light, viscous and very voluminous. That is, completely ready for styling and completing the look.
When styling is done using corrugated hair or zigzag hot rollers or other thermal tools, the best fixing agent is regular hairspray (spray).
The entire length of hair is sprayed from afar in layers and then combed out with a brush. After that, wrapping is performed, and then fixing:
- for rigid, persistent static installation - aerosol varnish (spray varnish);
- for dynamics and mobility without the effect of gluing - ordinary dry varnish.
Universal rule: everything should be used in moderation
There are many sprays that are applied immediately before drying your hair. Instead of ordinary foams, which are applied in large quantities, foams in a can that spray fine “dust” under pressure are in demand today. This results in minimal application of the product and maximum coverage of the entire surface of the hair.
A caveat: when working with these types of fixatives, you need to be a master at using a hairdryer and a comb. Because styling products such as foams or sprays for root volumes dry very quickly and fix the hair. If you do not comb and dry your hair in time, you will end up with glued strips that cause discomfort when combing, and then you have to redo your hairstyle and wash your hair several times.
Final styling products
When styling, it is important to use not only basic styling products. The final chord is always set by final styling products. The most popular of which is dry clay .
It is suitable for the final stage of texturing of both men's and women's styling. Very easy to use. Not greasy and does not absorb into hair and skin. Helps to texture the entire haircut and process the ends. If your hair is straight, you can style it in an interesting way, dry it, apply powder for root volume, texture the ends with dry clay and then fix the beauty with dry varnish. For daily care, it is best to use professional hairspray - it does not damage the hair and is easily washed off. While cheap sprays “sit” in the hair shaft for a long time, they are poorly washed off, which makes the hair dull and lose its vibrant appearance. Dry clay can even be used for curls.
You need to know how to handle styling for curly hair. Beautiful styling will only last for the first day. The next day, the hair will fluff up, and for the initial result you will have to wash your hair again.
Gels have not been in professional fashion for a long time. They are used only in extreme cases, for example, when the effect of wet hair is needed.
In addition to all existing styling tools, a tool is important. A small set of two or three good combs will last you a very long time.
The hairdryer should be professional, preferably with a narrow nozzle so that it has a hot jet and enough power to blow all the moisture out of the hair. I don’t recommend a regular hair dryer, because it just lacks power (and it blows the same hot air). Because of this, water boils in the hair structure and we simply burn the hair from the inside. Professional tools will save your time and ensure the best possible result.
