Pencil is one of the most popular makeup products for eyebrow makeup. We tell you what life hacks will make the work easier for new makeup artists and what mistakes it is important to avoid.

Choosing an eyebrow pencil

Using the pencil is easy and familiar, which is why many makeup artists choose this product for their work. There are two types of eyebrow pencils: powder and wax.

Powder pencils contain a large amount of pigment, so they give a richer shade than wax pencils. Wooden pencils produce particularly intense color, but they can break when sharpened. Mechanical pencils do not need to be sharpened - this is their advantage. To draw individual hairs, choose mechanical pencils with a thin rod - this way you can adjust the visual thickness of the eyebrows.

Wax pencils give a more shading effect, so they are ideal for creating natural eyebrow makeup. If your eyebrows are thick and well shaped, just use a thick pencil with a wax tip - it will help enhance the overall shade. Mechanical eyebrow pencils with medium and fine shafts allow you to draw individual hairs, outline boundaries and fill voids. When pressed firmly, even wax pencils draw a clear line.

Another important point is choosing the right shade of eyebrow pencil. Its color should be a couple of tones lighter or slightly darker than the shade of the hair, but in no case should it differ radically from it. For example, light taupe or taupe products are suitable for blondes, brown pencils with a warm undertone are suitable for red-haired beauties, and dark brown and gray are suitable for brunettes.

How to color your eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil

We will not dwell on the rules for selecting the shape of the eyebrows according to the shape of the face - you can read them in our previous material. And today we’ll tell you in more detail about the basic tips when working with such a tool as an eyebrow pencil.

  • To make your makeup look harmonious, paint over not only the upper border of the eyebrows, but also the lower one. Don’t forget to blend the product so that there are no clear lines and your eyebrows look natural, voluminous and thicker.
  • Fill in the voids with light strokes to even out the shape of your client's eyebrows and bring them to perfection. However, do not get carried away with painting the skin above and below the eyebrow if there are no hairs there - in this case, the makeup will look unnatural.
  • After using the pencil, use the brush to direct the hairs up, not down or to the side. This will make your eyebrows appear thicker, and their arch will look more natural and graceful.
  • Fix the hairs with a transparent gel so that the makeup remains long-lasting.
  • Highlight the area under the eyebrow with a light corrector or highlighter - this will open up your eyes.

Mistakes in eyebrow makeup with pencil

Wrong choice of shade . A pencil that is too dark looks unnatural and visually ages you.

Sharp lines. Long, clear and thick lines look unnatural, so use light and short strokes, and choose a soft and slightly dull pencil.

Ignoring shading . Eyebrow pencil requires careful shading, so it is extremely important to go over the eyebrow brush after applying the product.
