How to cut a Fade: step-by-step technology with photos
And a detailed description
Fade remains popular among male clients because the haircut is very comfortable and long-lasting.
Fade is a cutting technique that creates a smoky transition from the scalp to any desired hair length.
Suitable for clients who:
- want to wear a haircut for as long as possible;
- or have fast-growing hair.
It is important to find a balance between how short your hair should be cut and how long the top part of your hair should be.

Using attachments
To achieve a very short cut, use the clipper with different attachments: attachment #3 for the top of the head, attachment #2 for the sides, and attachment #1 for the neck area. This cutting method is often called the 1-2-3 method.
In addition, for cutting you need: scissors, a comb and a trimmer.
The main rule: shave hair in the direction it grows.
Step-by-step haircut technology
First, decide where the transition line (or lines) will be - it will determine the place where one length of hair passes into another. Transition line length: around the head from ear to ear. Choose the place where you will make the transition line at your discretion. You can place it anywhere, for example, slightly above the ear, or 5-7 cm above it.
Step 1. Start with the largest nozzle (3 mm)
We hold the clipper vertically when we start shaving the hair. Just like when shaving your face, the main rule is to shave the hair against its growth.
From the temples we move towards the back of the head. We walk along the transition line with smooth movements.
Step 2 . After the main shaving on the sides and back of the head, it’s time to move on to using another attachment. If you started with #3, change it to #2.
We carry out the same manipulations with nozzle No. 1. But on the lower part of the back of the head we use a trimmer to remove hair to zero.
Step 3 . We mark the transition line using the “car over the ridge” technique. We begin to form a 45 degree angle with the help of the comb in relation to the transition line, and lift the hair up, running the comb into the hair just a few centimeters.
Step 4 . Next, we trim the top part of the hair using the pointing technique.
Step 5 . Creating dynamics and ease in hair styling.
