Having time to book and serve absolutely all clients, working overtime and forgetting what a weekend is like for a whole month... Very familiar to hairdressers, isn’t it? Of course, the financial result can be impressive, but how not to lose your physical and psychological health?

The professional hairdressing magazine HJ constantly raises important topics regarding the work routine of hairdressers. One of these is the topic of professional, creative burnout of masters during a particularly busy period - on the eve of the New Year and Christmas.

In their material, the authors created an interesting checklist of signs of burnout and advice on how it can and should be dealt with. And the expert on the topic was the ambassador of the famous Matrix brand Ria Kulik. We have translated the material for you and strongly recommend that you read it.

“I am very familiar with the situation when you clearly understand that you need to say “no”, but you continue to agree and put all of yourself into additional work in order to somehow return the spark to the work. When you feel like your brain is completely full and like it’s about to burst, and you can no longer cope with people’s questions, problems and an ever-growing list of tasks,” shares Ria.

How to recognize burnout?

No matter how much time you devote to relaxation, you cannot relax 100%.
Small troubles begin to turn into big problems for you that you have to deal with.

There is no proper balance between work and life outside of it.

You feel very stressed.

You have a constant feeling of anxiety, and it only gets worse if you try to control.

You lose enthusiasm and even resent your work.

How to solve this problem?

Listen and put yourself first. If you're feeling overwhelmed and burnt out, today put yourself first and take a break.

Set professional boundaries at work. Decide how many hours you are going to work and stick to them. You won't be able to accommodate everyone, and this will encourage clients to become more organized. This way you can always make time for yourself and your needs.

Don't answer after hours, just turn off your phone. Today, clients are accustomed to contacting specialists at any time of the day or night. Set aside time during the day to respond, connect, take notes. Or generate polite automatic messages that will be sent to customers upon their request. It really takes the pressure off.

Enjoy the little things. Make sure you set aside at least one day a week for yourself or to hang out with friends/family. Put your phone in airplane mode and let yourself enjoy life.

As an option to activate your enthusiasm, invest in yourself and your skills.

Taking a day away from your daily routine and spending some time educating yourself is a great way to uplift yourself and meet others in the same position.
