How a makeup artist can choose a lighted makeup mirror
Important point!

When setting up their own workplace, every makeup artist is faced with the important issue of choosing a lighted makeup mirror. Let's figure it out and give answers.
While working with a client or model, the makeup artist looks not only at the girl, but also at her reflection in the mirror. This allows you to perform makeup more competently and accurately, as well as see and correct mistakes such as uneven complexion, flaking of the skin or poor shading of shadows. As a rule, masters choose illuminated mirrors for their studios and salons, which provide proper lighting at any time of the day.
Which mirror should I choose?
For studios and beauty salons, manufacturers recommend choosing high-quality mirrors that will convey the image as accurately as possible. These include products with silver and titanium coating - they are best suited for applying makeup, unlike aluminum and amalgam mirrors.
Makeup mirror surfaces can have different shapes and sizes. Such a mirror can even be full-length, but more often makeup artists use medium-sized oval or rectangular mirrors to apply makeup.
Choose a wall or table mirror? It all depends on your wishes and the room you use as your workplace. Of course, the most convenient option would be a wall mirror, as it will save space on your desk.
What type of lamps should I choose?
The most popular and modern option for lighting mirrors are LED lamps. They do not heat up, are durable, easy to use and have an attractive appearance. Moreover, they provide a bright spectrum of lighting, but at the same time pleasant to the eye, which is why we most often see LED lamps in beauty salons, studios of makeup artists and stylists.
Incandescent, halogen and fluorescent lamps are most often not suitable for the professional purposes of a makeup artist.
Characteristics of LED lamps for make-up mirrors
Flask. There are matte and transparent LED lamp bulbs. Since transparent ones provide a harsher and more targeted light, makeup artists use them extremely rarely. It is better to give preference to frosted bulbs, which diffuse the light and make it more pleasing to the eye.
Power. For make-up mirrors, manufacturers use lamps of 6, 5 and 3.5 W. The 6W power is ideal for large make-up stations and full-length mirrors. For small mirrors, LED lamps with a power of 5 or 3.5 W will be sufficient.
Color temperature of lamps. One of the most important nuances is the selection of lamps according to color temperature. There are three types of light: warm, cool and daylight. To perform makeup, it is important to choose daylight lamps, since they are the ones that best imitate natural light. Warm and cold type lamps will distort the makeup, giving it an unnecessary undertone.
Placing lamps around a makeup mirror
It is important that the lamps are placed not only on top, but also on the sides of the makeup mirror. They will allow you to evenly illuminate the client’s face without creating unnecessary shadows. Lamps can be provided either on all four sides of the mirror, or on three if it is on a table.
