Hair division: what types of partings exist?
Basic principle
Types of partings and dividing hair into zones are basic concepts in hairdressing. What types of partings exist and into what zones can they divide hair? Let's remember!
Horizontal parting
This parting passes through the occipital protuberances from ear to ear. To determine the occipital protuberances, you need to place the comb with the flat side below the back of the head. They will be located where the comb leaves the head. Horizontally we divide the occipital zone into the upper and lower parts.
Vertical parting
It runs from the middle of the forehead through the middle of the back of the head. They are directed perpendicular to the floor line.
Side parting
Side partings separate the parietal zone from the temporolateral ones. The line of this parting runs from the frontal hollows to the sagittal parting.
All these partings help us divide the hair into the parietal, two temporal, upper and lower occipital zones.
Sagittal parting
A sagittal parting is a parting from ear to ear through the highest point of the head.
The highest point is in the parietal zone, in the area of the central vertical parting, where the comb applied to the head takes a horizontal position.

Thanks to the correct division of hair into partings, the cutting process takes place in stages and allows you to avoid removing the desired length. The classic division of hair into zones is that, using a special comb with a thin handle and clips, the stylist forms several sections. But when creating a haircut, you can experiment with them and combine several types of partings.
Of course, parting and dividing hair into zones is useful not only during haircuts. These zones allow you to make an even cut and create curls.
