Dior, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana: makeup in the style of legendary fashion houses

Beauty codes of top brands

Fashion houses influence our makeup more than we can imagine. And we’re not just talking about the trends dictated to us by designers and makeup artists from the catwalks, but also about the beauty codes that iconic brands have been instilling in us for decades.

Dior

The Dior fashion house released its first line of cosmetics in 1950, just four years after its founding. The star product of the first collection was a luxurious red lipstick, and a few years later new shades appeared in the palette, from delicate pinks to colorful oranges. Another boom in the beauty history of Dior was the appearance of five-color eyeshadow palettes 5 Couleurs in 1987, which became the impetus for creating harmonious eye makeup.

In recent years, Dior makeup under the direction of Chanel creative makeup designer Peter Philips has been all about beautiful yet natural skin, rebellious eye makeup and slightly balm-touched lips. The makeup artist often makes black arrows along the upper and lower eyelids or smokey eyes deliberately imperfect and rough in order to add bold and decisive notes to the overall look.

Chanel

Another legendary French fashion house that had a huge influence on the formation of beauty canons is Chanel. We have Gabrielle Chanel to thank for introducing radiant, tanned skin into fashion. The main colors of Chanel makeup collections are gold, red and beige with a slight shine. By the way, the designer launched a beauty line 10 years after the opening of the fashion house.

One of the brand's legendary cosmetic products was the classic red lipstick Rouge de Chanel, which Gabrielle suggested girls wear every day, combining it with everyday outfits.

What kind of makeup does the brand offer us now? For the runway, Chanel creative makeup designer Lucia Pica favors eye-focused makeup. Smokey eyes of varying intensity, graphic arrows and thick black eyelashes – these are the key accents in the models’ images.

But for the advertising campaigns that inspire girls around the world, Chanel traditionally uses red or pink-carmine lipstick, graceful black eyeliner or natural beige shades of eyeshadow.

Dolce & Gabbana

But the Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana has been faithful to its makeup course for many years. The designers released their first collection of decorative cosmetics in 2009, and the face of the new advertising campaign was the seductive Scarlett Johansson with red lipstick on her lips and cat-like arrows on her eyelids.

Feminine, spectacular and seductive - here she is, the Dolce & Gabbana girl both then and now. The brand continues to celebrate on the runway and in its advertising campaigns makeup with flirty winged eyelids, beige-brown shades of eyeshadow and bold lips in red or other berry tones. Italians can dilute the traditional look with a scattering of gold on the skin or colorful accents with coral lipsticks, turquoise and lilac pencils or liners.
