Throughout 2020, many bloggers on social networks talked about a convenient and workable method for washing and drying curly hair. But in fact, this method has existed and been popular for several years.

The history of the “curly method” of hair care began back in 2012, when the famous stylist and co-owner of the Devachan salon chain Lorraine Massey published a book in which she described in detail how to care for curls. In addition, Lorraine created a brand of curly hair care products and now helps everyone who wants to master this method.

Over the years of existence of this method, different opinions have formed about it. Some consider it the most convenient and working for curly hair, but for others it has too many restrictions, and in general, everything is subjective for each client.

However, in this article we want to tell you about the curly hair care method that many social network users have adopted.

What are the basic “rules” of this method?

To be systematic in this method of care, you will need products such as shampoo, conditioner (this is usual), a mask, leave-in care and gel to fix the result.

According to the book by Lorraine Massey, it is important to reduce the negative mechanical impact on the hair as much as possible. Therefore, when using the “curly method” it is better to avoid hair dryers, straightening irons and terry towels. After all, all this contributes to increased hair fluffiness and, as a result, untidy and damaged curls, the structure of which is already fragile. It is also recommended to avoid shampoos that contain sulfates and silicones. But a more important factor here will be whether the shampoo matches your scalp type.

The goal of this method is to fill and saturate curly hair with the moisture it so lacks. This is achieved mainly with the help of air conditioning.

The conditioner must be applied generously to the hair, combed with a comb or comb and left for a minute so that it is better absorbed. Next, you need to gradually add water and “squeeze” the strands from bottom to top, as if forming curls while wet. Then wait another 2-3 minutes and use water to carefully rinse off the conditioner (using the same “squeezing” method).

After conditioning, many people apply a leave-in treatment - a mask, cream or other type of product. After application, it is also best to comb your hair for maximum distribution of the product.

You need to squeeze out excess moisture with your hands from bottom to top, without loosening the curls. And then wrap your head with a silk or microfiber towel for a few minutes.

Before drying, it is important to apply a styling product to fix curls. There are two best ways to dry your hair using this method: naturally or with a diffuser. It all depends on preference, but the faster the curls “set”, the tighter they will hold.
