Colorist: what do you need to know about the profession?
Answered by a professional

The profession of colorist has rapidly burst into the beauty industry market and occupies one of the highest positions in hairdressing.
An expert in creating any colors and the most fashionable embossed hair dyes, he is now becoming the target of both fashionable clients and beauty salon managers.

Having a cool colorist on your team is a real dream, because the fashion for hair coloring is becoming more diverse, and dye technologies are constantly being improved, which gives the hairdresser great opportunities. But only if professional cosmetics are used correctly and knowledge is improved. It is with this help that you can become a sought-after specialist in the field of modern coloristics.
Just imagine: all last year we created cool shades and blonde, managing to keep the client’s hair in impeccable condition with the help of special additives and various techniques, and since January of this year, every second blonde asks to dye it warm ginger, caramel or cinnamon color. However, warm colors with fashionable undertones are no easier to create than cool ones.
Last year, brunette clients of our Color Bar Le Cadeau actively switched to lighter brown, beige, neutral colors, or we used smooth transitions using sombre, shatush, and balayage techniques. We created artistic coloring when going out of black hair color. But already in the new season, fashionable brunettes can try on dark chocolate with a slight undertone of cherry or eggplant. That is why a colorist is a specialist who needs high training with knowledge of the latest technologies, techniques, the latest trends in coloring and the ability to apply all this in practice.
How long has this profession existed? Where does it originate?
We are accustomed to the fact that a hairdresser is a kind of generalist who provides a full range of services: cutting, coloring, hairstyle, and permanently curling hair. But many years ago, segmentation occurred at the Vidal Sassoon Academy. A colorist and hair stylist work together to create the client's hair style. And each of them does their part of the job flawlessly. Since hair coloring techniques are now becoming more complex, this profession is taking its first steps in the beauty industry market here.
What does a novice hairdresser need to become a colorist?
A novice colorist or a person who already works as a hairdresser, but wants to plunge into another world, the world of coloring, and make it his life’s work, needs to be stocked with desire, love for people and the right choice of teachers. Now there are a lot of offers on the training market, but, unfortunately, there are only a few that are worthy and truly effective.
What are the disadvantages of being a colorist?
If you love your job, then there are no downsides. Colorism is very multifaceted; it can be used in different areas, except for working as a hairdresser. For example, I teach a color course for beginning florists and use it in psychological trainings. By the way, the training “The Art of Communication with People”, which I conduct at our Academy, is also based on color. Be the first, learn from the best, become successful and happy in your profession!
