Colored mascara: how to choose and apply?
For summer makeup
The summer season is always a time for experimenting with color, including mascara shades. How to choose colored mascara, which shades are best to use and how to apply the product correctly, we will tell you below.
Types of colored mascara
Tinted mascara . Most often presented in muted colors: purple, blue, green, brown. The color of such mascara does not catch the eye, and can only be noticed when the light hits it at a certain angle. This mascara can be used instead of black to highlight the color of a girl’s eyes or to make the makeup softer, not as expressive as when using black mascara. Tinted mascara is great for client make-up, including wedding make-up .
Intense color mascara . With the help of such colored mascara you get bright, colorful eyelashes. You can find the product in completely different shades: pink, yellow, blue, light green or red. Such products are unlikely to be appreciated by many clients, but they are indispensable when working on set or creating creative images.
How to choose mascara color?
Blue mascara . Mascara in this shade is one of the most popular colored eyelash products. It suits girls with blue and gray eyes perfectly, making the look deeper. Working in contrast, blue mascara is also ideal for brown- and green-eyed beauties - it makes the iris brighter.
If you use blue mascara, you should not emphasize your eyes with a black pencil or eyeliner - this will create an imbalance of shades, and the blue mascara will simply “get lost”. Opt for dark brown or dark blue eyeliner to create a harmonious eye makeup look . When choosing shadows, move away from the blue-blue range, but otherwise feel free to experiment.
Purple mascara . Dark plum shades are suitable even for daytime makeup, and they look best against blue eyes, giving them expressiveness. Girls with green and brown eyes should apply a brighter purple shade so that it is more visible.
Colored mascara in a purple shade looks luxurious in the summer in combination with tanned skin and freckles. It will also go well with bronze, coral, green and terracotta shades - a great choice for the current season! But it is better to put aside shadows and pencils in turquoise, blue and gray shades.
Brown mascara . Colored mascara in brown is a real find for age-related makeup . It looks softer and neater than classic black, so it is ideal for women over 45. It is also good for girls with blond and red hair, adding warmth and calm to the image.
You can almost always use brown mascara, the main thing is to choose the right shade and undertone. In this case, you can choose a matching eyeliner or give preference to classic black. It’s better to forget about bright neon shades of shadows and liners - a tandem will definitely not work. Give preference to golden, beige-brown and terracotta tones.
Green mascara . Emerald, grassy, marsh or almost turquoise shade - green mascara can be different. Choose the most suitable tone for your client or model, but do not forget that colored mascara works best in contrast - brown and gray eyes with green eyelashes will look luxurious.
The eyeliner in this case can be black, grey, brown or green. Choose shadows in natural shades without a cold metallic sheen: yellow, sand, cream, terracotta or beige.
How to apply colored mascara?
If you are using tinted mascara, apply regular black mascara to your lashes first and let it dry before using colored mascara. This way the shade will be deeper and more natural. This rule is especially important to follow when applying makeup to fair-haired girls.
When using intensely colored mascara, you should follow a different principle. For the most vibrant color, apply it over a white base. Layer from roots to ends until you get the desired effect. Finally, comb your eyelashes with a special brush or eyebrow brush to remove any lumps.
You can apply colored mascara in different ways: from the very roots to the ends, only on the tips of the eyelashes to add a little color, only on the upper or lower eyelashes. Using bright mascara in several shades, you can even create a gradient on your eyelashes.
