In this material, we will recall the concept of color stretching and define the techniques that exist thanks to this method.

Color stretching is a general name for many coloring techniques, such as balayage, ombre, sombre, shatush and others. Using many techniques, hairdressers create beautiful transitions from one shade to another on the client’s hair.

What is the essence of color stretching? It involves partial or zonal dyeing: it all depends on the length of the hair, as well as where the dye is applied: a few centimeters away from the roots, approximately from the middle of the length, or closer to the ends.

In the case of stretching, a natural color is used as a basis and one or more other shades to create a 3D effect. Thanks to the smooth contours, the feeling of natural tides, the glare of the sun, the appearance is transformed and becomes fresh.

Many clients choose color stretching due to a number of benefits:

1. Gentle effect, since not the entire mass of hair is dyed.

2. Long-lasting results from coloring. The roots grow in a less contrasting and imperceptible way, and therefore the coloring does not require frequent correction.

3. Naturalness. Soft color transitions create natural overflows.

4. Versatility. Stretching is carried out on hair of different lengths, structures and colors, it will refresh any appearance, suitable for young girls and older women.

5. Color stretching gives the hair visual volume, a healthy look, and the hairstyle – dynamics and lightness.

The most popular coloring techniques include: ombre , sombre , balayage , chatouge , flamboyage, babylights, degradation, dim-out, California highlighting , sunlight.

Is color stretching suitable for all hair lengths?

Long hair allows you to create a smooth, gradual color gradient, when creating which you can use several shades - this will give the hairstyle dynamism and richness.

The medium length is the most universal for all types of color stretching.

Full stretching with a smooth transition will not work for short hair. Techniques such as shatush or ombre will not be fully revealed. However, contrasting and expressive transitions can be created using dim-out and degradation techniques. An excellent solution is to combine this coloring with square haircuts and bobs.
