Winter is a difficult time of year for our hair, because it is during this period that it especially suffers from frost, cold wind, temperature changes and dry indoor air. Stylist Marine Muradyan helped us understand the issue of hair care in winter.

When the weather is frosty outside, we always dress warmly, even cover our faces with a scarf, and put gloves on our hands. But we often forget about hair, although it suffers no less from low temperatures. The curls are injured, become brittle, dry, fluffy and electrified. This is why during severe frosts I advise hiding your hair under a scarf or hat. The second equally important point is regular proper care to maintain the beauty and health of your hair.

Cleansing

The main rules for hair care in winter include cleansing. When choosing a shampoo, it is important not to forget that it should suit your scalp type, not your hair type. The main task of this product is to cleanse the skin, and only then the hair. For example, if a shampoo contains oils, it should not be used by girls with oily scalps, otherwise the result will unpleasantly surprise them. To cleanse the scalp of dead cells, impurities, residues of styling and care products that clog pores and prevent the skin from breathing, I recommend undergoing special salon detox programs once a month. They will help solve problems such as dandruff, slow hair growth or increased oily scalp.

Nutrition and recovery

In winter, you should add nourishing and restorative products to your care. They will help make your hair dense and strong, and also get rid of split ends. I recommend choosing products from the same series: shampoo, conditioner, mask and, if available, serum or special ampoules. The effect in this case is more noticeable. When caring for your hair in winter, it is important to adhere to the correct sequence of using products. First we use shampoo. The first wash allows you to get rid of the remnants of styling products and impurities that have accumulated on the scalp and hair, and the second wash provides exactly the effect that the line promises (restoring, moisturizing, nourishing, and so on). The next step is to use a mask (once or twice a week is enough), and only then conditioner or balm. Why is that? Because shampoo opens the hair scales and prepares the curls to absorb the next beauty product. At this point, it is best to use a mask so that it penetrates inside the hair shaft and provides the desired effect. The mask does not cover the scales or smooth them out - this is the job of a conditioner or balm, so it should be used last. We remember that we apply masks and balms only along the length of the hair, without affecting the roots. I recommend washing your hair with warm water, but at the end rinsing your hair with cold water to close the scales, strengthen the hair follicles and give your hair shine. Caring for hair ends in winter also involves the use of special products (creams, balms, serums), especially if they split and look untidy. If you use such beauty products regularly, the problem will disappear after a while. Hair care in winter

Antistatic agents in winter hair care

After washing your hair, I advise you to use an antistatic agent. Hats, scarves and heating appliances cause electrification, so it is extremely difficult to do without such an additional hair care product in winter. Antistatic agents do not make the strands greasy, do not allow them to frizz, and thus ensure a beautiful appearance of the hairstyle. When heat styling, I advise you to first use an antistatic agent and then a thermal protectant to protect your hair from high temperatures.

Oils

In winter, nourishing your hair with oils will also be extremely useful. But girls often don’t know that pure oils should be used with extreme caution, because they weigh down the hair. But cosmetics that are designed specifically for hair care have the right concentration of oils, which allows you to nourish your hair without weighing it down. I recommend using such oils not immediately after washing your hair, but when your hair dries a little. So that the oil does not have to overcome the barrier that water creates on the way to the hair shaft. In this case, the product will be evenly distributed and the hair will not seem greasy or weighed down after using it. Pay special attention to oils with dispensers - they are much more convenient to spray on your hair to achieve even application.
