If this is how you dry your client's hair, stop doing it. Our expert Liliya Sivolapova named the most common mistakes and explained why they should not be made.

1. Dry hair that is too wet

No matter how paradoxical it may sound, you need to dry your hair with a hair dryer. After you get out of the shower, dry your hair thoroughly with a towel, which will absorb most of the moisture. Before you can start blow-drying, your hair should be 60-65% dry and definitely not dripping with water. Otherwise, the hair dryer has too strong a negative effect, which can lead to split ends, dandruff, or even cause hair loss.

2. Not paying attention to the roots

Yes, yes, they also need care, attention, care and love, that is, styling products, oils and drying. Usually we “fenim” along the entire length of the hair, without reaching the roots. Hence the “sleek” effect, as if the hair is dirty and crushed by a hat. To make your hair look like you just stepped out of the salon, apply a little special product for root volume, work it well into the hair at the base all over your head, bend down and, like a gardener weeding, dry your hair, combing the strands at the roots with your fingers. Returning to a vertical position, comb your hair and fix the volume with hairspray, spraying the product not only on top, but also under the hair. This way you will achieve the ideal volume without extra effort.

3. Start drying from the ends

Most of us start drying our hair from the ends, while we need to start from the roots, as if drawing the moisture lower and lower. A brush will help you with this, which you will use to comb your hair while drying. This way the process will take much less time. To style long hair, tilt your head forward, comb all the hair down and blow it with a hairdryer until semi-dry, combing it with a brush “against the grain” from back to front.

Then they lift the head and give the hair the desired shape using a hairdryer and a round or flat brush. They start with the lower strands, pinning the upper ones at the top of the head. Then styled dry hair will not come into contact with wet strands. Each strand is combed “against the grain” from the roots, slightly pulling the brush. To make the strand wavy, wrap it completely around a thin round brush and dry it in this state with a hairdryer. Using a large diameter brush and a hairdryer, you can achieve waves at the ends of your hair, as well as volume at the roots. Each strand is first dried with warm air, and then pinned until the hair cools down.

Short hair is first combed as usual using a hairdryer and a comb, then, bending the head forward, ruffled “against the grain.” In order for short hair to “stand”, it needs to be pulled vertically and dried in this state. The hot air of the hair dryer should be directed from the roots to the ends, holding the hair dryer at a distance of 15-20 cm from the hair. With a short haircut, blow-drying usually starts from the parietal part of the head - from the forehead, and if the hairstyle is parted, then from the parting.

4. Use styling products incorrectly

Having bought one heat protectant to protect our hair, we hope that it will not only save it from high temperatures, but also add volume, shine, hold and God knows what else. Remember: each product has its own functions, and if the jar says “For root volume,” this does not mean that the spray will also protect against overheating.
