Vichy: new opportunities in research on exposome factors
VICHY Laboratories: pioneers in exposome research
VICHY Laboratories presented ten posters with the results of the latest research, positioning the brand as an expert in the field of skin exposure research and a major player in restoring the skin barrier and managing age-related skin changes.
More than 40 years of research have allowed Vichy laboratories to gain a deep understanding of the influence of exposure factors on the skin: from the mechanisms of damage to the protective barrier to delayed consequences, in particular, the appearance of signs of skin aging. The concept of the exposome suggests several environmental factors, such as UV radiation, climatic conditions, pollution, and lifestyle, that can compromise the integrity of the skin barrier, inducing skin disease and accelerating the appearance of signs of aging.
The knowledge gained allows Vichy laboratories to create the best formulas, including Vichy thermal water of volcanic origin with a high content of 15 minerals, combined with dermatological active ingredients in the most effective concentrations. Vichy's formulas promote skin health by protecting it from daily aggressors, known as exposome factors, and correcting existing damage, such as signs of skin aging. Developed together with dermatologists and tested under dermatological supervision, Vichy dermatocosmetics allow every woman to improve skin health at all stages of life.
The EADV Congress 2020 is another opportunity for Vichy Laboratories to announce the fifth launch of the Vichy Exposome Grant, which aims to support research in the field of skin exposome. This year, the Vichy laboratories have decided to triple their support for this research, offering three grants worth 15 thousand euros for each study carried out in three different regions of the world. In addition, Vichy laboratories actively support world congresses, including the S-Congress post-course.
The Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) opened up new opportunities in the field of dermatology and venereology with a 100% virtual congress containing more than 200 scientific e-sessions, 475 speakers, 1500 e-posters and 29 virtual ones.
Applications for the Vichy Exposome Grant project will be reviewed by an independent expert jury headed by Professor Jean Krutmann (Germany), which includes Professors Craig Elmets (USA), Haidong Kan (China), Thierry Passeron (France) and Sergio Schalka (Brazil).
This year the EADV Congress took place from October 29 to 31. Vichy laboratories presented 10 posters on three main topics:
1. Exposure and skin aging
Two posters demonstrating the expertise of Vichy laboratories in counteracting the influence of exposome factors and skin aging. Clinical trial results:
- antioxidant serum “Liftactive”;
liftactive peptide-C and glyco-C.
Skin aging combines the process of chronological aging and the influence of exposome factors, such as chronic exposure to UV rays and pollution, which can induce the formation of reactive oxygen species. Vichy Laboratories have developed an antioxidant serum to counteract reactive oxygen species to reduce the main signs of skin aging: deep wrinkles, age spots, uneven skin texture and tone. The effectiveness of the formula containing 15% L-ascorbic acid, neohesperidin, pycnogenol, tocopherol and fragmented hyaluronic acid was tested in 40 Brazilian women with signs of aging who applied Liftactive every morning for three months. A significant reduction in wrinkles, evening out skin tone and reduction in pigmentation was observed both visually and instrumentally.
Exposome factors such as chronic UV radiation and potential pollution can increase the visible signs of skin aging, such as wrinkles, dullness and uneven pigmentation. The Vichy laboratory has developed two formulas in ampoule format to ensure maximum stability of the key active ingredients, optimal effectiveness and maximum endurance:
• “Peptide-C” – a product with 10% vitamin C, peptides, hyaluronic acid and Vichy thermal water of volcanic origin, which showed noticeable results during clinical studies: after 4 weeks of use, 11% fewer wrinkles around the eyes were noticed, 9 % fewer wrinkles on the forehead and 5% fewer wrinkles in the nasolabial folds.
• "Glyco-S" - a product with a 10% complex of acids (glycolic acid, citric acid, HEPES), hyaluronic acid and Vichy thermal water of volcanic origin, which showed noticeable results in clinical studies: after 8 weeks of use, 36.8% less was observed pigment spots on the face in European women and 22% less in Asian women. The innovative ampoule format allows you to use only the best active ingredients in minimalist formulas.
2. VICHY thermal water of volcanic origin, "Mineral 89" and skin protective barrier
Seven posters focusing on Vichy's highly mineralized volcanic thermal water and Mineral 89 booster gel, containing 89% Vichy thermal water, and their ability to protect and restore the skin's protective barrier in a variety of dermatological conditions, including post-procedure.
Several factors, including pollution, lack of sleep and UV-induced damage, affect the skin on a daily basis, weakening its barrier function and significantly accelerating the aging process. Highly mineralized Vichy thermal water of volcanic origin, which comes from French volcanoes and contains active minerals in high concentrations (5.2 g/l, 15 minerals), has proven effectiveness in strengthening the protective barrier of the skin and stimulating the synthesis of keratinocyte differentiation markers, transfilute. involucrin) and tight cell junction proteins (claudin-1, ocludin-1 ash), strengthening the protective barrier of the skin, increasing its resistance to the daily aggressive effects of exposome factors.
“Mineral 89” is a product with a minimalistic formula based on Vichy thermal water of volcanic origin and hyaluronic acid, strengthens the skin’s protective barrier, and is excellent and effective for various facial dermatoses, in particular rosacea.
The booster gel is safe to use when used concomitantly with topical ivermectin. In addition, it shows excellent efficacy and tolerability in patients with rosacea. Fabric firming mask "Mineral 89" for skin restoration reduces erythema, dry skin, tightness, burning and tingling sensations. Clinical manifestations, such as erythema, skin peeling, irritation, as well as symptoms such as dry skin, burning sensation, itching and tingling, were significantly reduced after 4 weeks of continuous use. According to the results of clinical studies, Mineral 89 had excellent tolerability, and the level of satisfaction with use among both patients and dermatologists was high.
3. Alopecia and scalp
Poster based on the results of a large-scale international observational study demonstrating the high effectiveness of Aminexil Clinical 5 among patients with mild alopecia.
A large-scale multicenter international observational study involving more than 500 patients with mild alopecia in a real-world setting. The study showed the effectiveness of Aminexil Clinical 5 against hair loss. Androgenetic alopecia in men (AGA) and female pattern hair loss (FPHL) are two of the most common forms of alopecia and have a significant impact on quality of life. Aminexil Clinical 5 has demonstrated proven effectiveness against hair loss in several studies, even among patients with sensitive scalps.
The study showed the following results from using Aminexil Clinical 5:
- after a mean period of 82.9±17.5 days, dermatological examination showed a decrease in hair loss in 87.1% of patients compared to the beginning of the study;
- results among female patients were better (91.8%) compared to male patients (80.3%);
- patient satisfaction on a scale from 0 (not at all satisfied) to 10 (completely satisfied) was 7.9±1.7;
- tolerability of the drug was indicated as “good” or “very good” in 98.6% of patients;
- The texture was rated as "pleasant" by 95% of patients.
