Metabolic syndrome is one of the most studied pathologies in the world. Today, the identification of the metabolic syndrome has great clinical significance, since this condition is at the heart of the pathogenesis of type II diabetes, arterial hypertension, and atherosclerosis, that is, diseases that are currently the main causes of mortality worldwide.

The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in industrialized countries among the population over 30 years old is, according to various authors, 10-20%. This disease occurs most often in men. In women, its frequency increases during menopause. A genetically determined decrease in the production of female sex hormones by the ovaries initiates the development of mutually aggravating metabolic disorders.

According to modern concepts, the metabolic syndrome is characterized as a set of disorders of systemic (including hormonal) regulation of carbohydrate, fat, protein and other types of metabolism under the influence of external and internal factors, as well as mechanisms of blood pressure regulation and endothelial function, which are based on a decrease tissue sensitivity to insulin - insulin resistance.

With metabolic syndrome, there is an accumulation in the blood of pathologically high concentrations of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism products, intermediate metabolites, and abnormal compounds, such as oxidized lipoproteins, glycosylated proteins, and waste products of hypoxic tissues.
