Allergic reactions
Allergic reactions, or hypersensitivity reactions, are the response of the immune system, which is accompanied by damage to healthy tissues of one's own body. Antibodies, lymphocytes and other cells that are components of the immune system take part in the process. Allergic reactions are mild, moderate and severe. As a rule, they are limited to irritation and itching of the eyes, lacrimation, sneezing, and local swelling, but can be life-threatening if breathing is suddenly difficult, cardiac activity is disturbed, and blood pressure drops sharply, that is, anaphylactic shock occurs.
The general and most significant sign of shock is a sharp decrease in blood flow with impaired peripheral and then central blood circulation under the influence of histamine and other mediators abundantly secreted by cells. It usually presents with various symptoms within minutes or hours.
Classification according to the clinical course of anaphylactic shock:
- fulminant course;
- recurrent course;
- abortive course
